I was trying to figure how fast I travel when hunting since I've never really put much thought into it. I've read the average person can walk 3mph which comes out to 1 mile every 20 mins, but that's not factoring climbing up a mountain and elevation and with 50lbs or so in your back. I figured if I could hike 1.5mph that'd put me roughly 4.5 miles in after 3 hours of hiking. Anyone actually figure out how fast you travel and how far that has gotten you?

yes, flat ground i move at 2.5 mph typically, on trail but in the mtns i typically move around 1.5, if its a rugged trail or some snow more like 1.2 and if its off trail(like almost all hunting) its arond .8 or .9

hope that helps

My speeds are right in line with fillthefreezer's, although I can occasionally average a hair over 3mph on easy trails.

on trail in the mountains not hunting 2.0-2.5 depending on elevation gain (downhill 3.0-3.5)
off trail not hunting good terrain 1.3-1.8
off trail downfall 1.0
on trail hunting 1.5
off trail hunting .8- 1.0

100 yards or less per hour if I'm within a few hundred yards of deer, slower as I get closer (ideally, way slower)
