What are the best ways to do a safe and secure transaction for both parties involved?

I pay the extra 3% Paypal fee for buyer protection. Never had to use it, so I don't know how it works if something happens.

Generally I don't buy from someone unless I see they have some history on here, and you can usually tell by good communication that they are trustworthy.

The best thing you can do is research the seller. If you still want added protection, pay the extra 3% on PayPal and make sure that you send money from "goods and services", and NOT gift. Paying the extra 3% if making a gift payment is just icing on the cake for the seller.

Some people delete their classified posts after the sale is completed so that's not always a good check. Can check the "good guys" thread too or just their general post history

I have a tendency to trust people. I've sent money by PayPal and by Postal Money Order and Ive shipped things before I've received money. I like to talk to people by phone sometimes to complete details and I do look at history. I've had real good luck ( cross fingers) with all transactions SO FAR and I've enjoyed dealing with the people on this site( my wife thinks different).

Ive bought a few things from here and other sites. You are unlikely to run into a scammer in a small forum like this one, but its possible. I usually get name, email address, physical address, and phone number. These things are easy to verify with the internet if your feel sceptical. Then I send paypal. If they have lots of feedback or have participated on the site lots, I send as gift. If they have very little time or post count on the site, I pay the extra 3%. Ive never been burned here. I would guess that most people who utilize the forum frequently dont want to loose their priveleges over a couple hundred dollars.

ONLY do paypal. I recently sold a camera on Bowsite.com for $75. The buyer sent a "real" business check for $1500. Said it was an accident and to deposit it into the bank and then wire them the $1425. I then new it was a scam so I told them I would rather just keep the money instead. He actually told me...."You need to be honest and wire the money to me, after all I have been honest with you from the beginning"

There is a special placed reserved for lads that will do such a thing.

So what did you do with the check? Had you already sent the camera?

I still have the check. I did not deposit it and I kept the camera then sold it to someone else with paypal.

The last email I got said..." I'm getting pissed and thinking about getting the cops involved"

The idiot sent me detailed instructions on where to wire the money in England and did not mention anything about mailing the camera.

Paypal only, no gift. I'll pay the extra if needed. Look at posts and post counts for that person on the site. If all they do are classifieds, I avoid them. High post count guys are decent because they don't want to ruin their rep typically if a transaction goes bad.

Haven't done any here, but have had really good luck on AT over the years.

It's a little harder on this sight to check feedback than on other sites. The good guy list is pretty tough to look people up on.

With that said I have never had one issue on here buying or selling. PayPal, not gift is my preferred method. If you do gift you have no protection from PayPal. They could also kick you out of PayPal for conducting a goods transaction as a family and friends one.

Good luck, there are awesome deals to be had.

I have lots of transactions on campfire but not this site, but always used USPS MO both selling and buying with good contacts/conversations before the transaction and haven't been burned yet. I also always send certified and can track the mail.
Generally you can see their history on the site.

I can say i've been very fortunate dealing with hunters, never a bad deal and some great ones. Good advice above, check to see if they are on other forums with feedback if possible but like was mentioned you can get an idea of the person just by communicating with them, good luck.

I just had this discussion with my wife yesterday about how I know I can trust people when buying or selling things on rokslide. The best I could come up with was I just had a gut feeling about the kind of people that are on this site and take hunting as seriously as I do, those kind of people have proven to be trustworthy to me over the years. I will obviously be a little worried if the person has 1 post or something along those lines but I have never had a bad transaction on hunting forums whether it be Rokslide, Hunt Talk, or anything else out there.
