How are the browning hells canyon rifles?

I want to get a 300wm rifle and the browning hells canyon rifles seem nice? Does anybody have one in 300wm? How does it shoot? What’s the weight all scoped up?.

I don’t have one in 300wm but I do have one in 28 Nosler and I love it. It’s not bad to carry all day on long packs ins. Shoots very accurate shoulders very well I really like the thinner contour of the stock I can post up
Some Pics but I have a ZEISS 6-24x50 and it is a great setup killed 2 bucks with it this year (first year having it) so It’s been good luck as well.. I don’t have an accurate scale to
Throw it on but it won’t wear you out packing in and out that’s forsure. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one if I was looking for another rifle in that price Range

My son bought one a few months ago, the speed version. Well put together rifle, already bedded. The only improvement we did on it was a lighter trigger spring to be able to get the pull down in the 3lb range. I worked up a load with 205 Berger EH's at 3045fps. Shoots .5 MOA at 100 yards and is very accurate out past 1000 as well. In fact, my son's friend shot a buck with it at 1019 yards this fall. It has a big Burris XTRII 5-25 on it at the moment, but that is only temporary. Even with that scope, it only weighs in around 9.5lbs if I recall correctly.

I have a speed in a 300 PRC. Haven’t shot it too much but it shoots great with the 225 ELDM factory ammo. My buddy borrowed it and shot a deer at 470 yards with it. It is just over 8 lbs scoped

I have the 300WSM, so 1/2” shorter basically same rifle. It loves 180/200 gr, shoots about 3/4” with partitions at about 1.5 gr under max with W760.

I replaced the trigger spring with an MCarbo, $12 to make a light trigger, great deal.

There’s a little bit of the ceracoat missing on the tip of the barrel, which is the threaded on cap from falling in rocks, resting on floorboard, etc. Over all, 2 sheep hunts, 4 goats hunts, several caribou, lots of riding to the bear bait in a gun boot, pretty impressed with the coating.

Last week was the first time since august 2019 caribou. It was driven down the Alcan in a trailer, bounced all over the place. Still dead on.

Can I say I like it better than my Win EWSS? Not sure, they are smooth.

Pros:
Sexy lol
Lite weight
Easy button type rifle
60 bolt throw is nice
Accurate
Easy trigger upgrade
Can get matching Leupold scope and rings if it matters(I didn’t).
Barrel length is just right, enough velocity, not long enough to catch every alder on the mountain side.
Includes muzzle break and cap, nice for load development



Cons:
Coatings will wear over time, just the way it is
Rubber coating is not my favorite, more into fiberglass webbed style
Don’t like removable magazines much, prefer ADL/BDL style.
1 aftermarket stock maker besides Stockys(McM)


I have been considering the browning Xbolt pro with the carbon fiber stock, just not a fan of the rubber. But I’ll probably end up with another EWSS, as that’s more to my liking. Unless Remington emerges from the bankruptcy sale with 90’s quality rifles, then all bets are off ha!

I love my X-Bolt. I have always been a fan of Rem model 700's but after buying and shooting the x-bolt it is now my go to rifle.

I just bought one in 6.5 Jesus and really like it. I may buy another for the wife. I’m not a brand loyalist and have Rem Savage Ruger Howa and now Browning. I’ll upgrade the trigger spring soon but going to hunt it bone stock for now. Opener for rifle is Saturday here.

A Max Long Range May be in my future in 300WM or 7RM. I already have components for 7RM.

I have a HC Speed in 30 06 and a Max Long Range in 300 Win mag. Both are awesome. Shooting 220 ELDX's out of the 300 Win, 2795 fps, 0.5 MOA, dropped my elk at 505 yards and a mule deer at 100 yards. Replaced the triggers in both with Timneys, liked them better than the MCarbo springs.

Might get a 300 Win Mag in the Pro.

I’ve got a Speed version. It’s a shooter with ELDX and Match. The coatings do wear off and if you like to tinker, it’s not the rifle for you. If you want an out of the box shooter and don’t want to mess with anything, it’s a great choice. Also, get the MCARBO trigger spring. It makes the trigger better. I still don’t like the trigger (too heavy and has creep), but it’s a cheap upgrade to make it more palatable.

I’m just gonna chime in here, I haven’t owned a HC model but I’ve owned the western hunter and long range regular xbolts.

As most have mentioned, they’re nice smooth accurate rifles but next to no aftermarket support.

The triggers are the weakest link. I see some have had good luck with the trigger spring, that was not my experience. It still wouldn’t go below 3lbs and to be honest it was VERY inconsistent. That spring introduced a lot of inconsistencies. Sometimes it would have a little creep, sometimes a lot, and sometimes none at all. Not to mention the pull weight wasn’t consistent either. I ended up dumping the factory trigger for a timney, and I’d suggest you skip wasting time on the spring and just getting a better trigger assembly out of the gate. You’ll be happier for it.

A friend has one in 300 WM with a Vortex HST on it. I think the gun is balance and a good weight IMHO. Where the gun falls short to me is the factory trigger. To me its flat out junk compared to what I am used to. He shot my rifle and realized it himself. Turned around that day and bought a drop in Timney. Night and day better. So if you want the gun I would for sure get a better trigger.

My speed in 6.5 CM is 7.5 lbs scoped with a 4.5-14x42, my HC McMillan 28 Nosler is 10 lbs scoped with a SIghtron SIII 6-24x50. Both are excellent rifles, the McMillan version shoots absolutely lights out, first 2 in the basically the same hole from a cold bore.

Man I've always been a Winchester M70 kinda guy, but my Hell's Canyon is about as much as you can ask for from a factory rifle. Shoots factory stuff around MOA, handloads sub MOA, is attractive, handles well, and is nicely glass bedded from the factory. I threw the Mcarbo spring kit, which costs fifteen dollars, in mine and the trigger is killer.

They are a great rifle. I have a HC LR in 300wm, shot my elk at 1105 yds this year, and have brought it out to a mile target shooting. Its heavy compared to the speed. Shoots 215 Bergers very well. I also did the trigger upgrade stated above.

I have had four X-Bolts. All great shooters. The two I have now will go to the grave with me. Both shoot sub 1/2" moa. I think they have very good triggers. Not competition triggers, but well above average for a factory trigger. I did put Mcarbo kits in them also, just to get to 2.5 lbs, which is where I like my hunting triggers.
Both of these rifles have multiple 600 yard kills.
What's not to like? 60 degree bolt throw, smooth action, accurate, 6.7 lb rifle. They carry well and fit me perfectly.
