Hottest Percussion Caps

Looking at regulations for some hunts, there will likely be a need in the future to be able to configure my Knight Ultralight for percussion caps. I have a couple of questions specific to that:
  • Are some percussion caps significantly hotter than others?
    • If so, which ones?
    • Can they be made DIY to be hotter?
  • Will a hot percussion cap reliably ignite BH209?
  • If no, will 10 grains or so of FFFG Triple 7 work to ignite the BH209?

I don’t believe I’ve seen any data on which musket caps are the hottest. RWS, I’d guess.

Can you get B$209 to ignite with a cap ((#11 or musket)? Yes, with a duplex, as you mention - 5-10 gr of real black is what I would use. I’ve shot B$209 in my Hawken with #11s using a duplex load. You need a sealed breech, though, for consistency.

Best bet with a percussion Utra-lite would be 777, IMO.

IME I would say RWS is hotter but no actual proof other than they go bang more regularly.

Never could get a percussion or musket cap to reliably ignite BH209.

Never tried stacking triple F and have no desire to screw around with it.

MZs not going bang when you have an animal in your sights is just a part of the wonderfully frustrating world that is muzzle load hunting.
