Hotel stay - Council Bluffs/I-29 or Omaha airport area better ?

And echoing what a few others have said, there are a few Marriott and hilton options right by the BassPro and Casinos that are nice. Also wouldn't add anything (<5 min) to your drive and would have better food options to stay right in downtown Omaha, which is right on the river.

Thanks, especially because one hotel consideration by hotel rating as of now is was Best Western Plus near airport/Carter Lake area. Don’t want to end up in the ‘hood! 😆
Hotels by the airport aren’t in the hood, but that area is really out of the way if you are just staying a night during travel. Would probably add 30-40 min total to trip.

Thanks. Western Omaha…., like as in where? We’ll be continuing our drive early next morning via I-29 to I-90 I believe.
Hotels all around Cabela's in what is called Lavista. That would get you to the west side and well clear of traffic. Exit 442

And another 40ish minutes west on 80 and you hit Lincoln and have multiple options there on a few exits. 27th Street in Lincoln has some nice hotels or there's a few by the airport exit as well.

Since you're headed north from the area via I29, the airport or casino areas is fine. West Omaha/LaVista/Lincoln puts you on the other side of AM traffic.

While I enjoy one more night in a real bed before sleeping on a pad for a week, if you're camping in WY, you could always get a primitive spot at a campground somewhere and stay in your tent.

Somebody should start a Rokslide room exchange/hunter host program for pass through hunters needing a place to stay for 10 hours or less. I'd welcome you to my house, but I'm SW of Lincoln about 20 miles, so well out of your way.

This right here...

A quick search on Trip Advisor found hotels in Sioux City for $150 or less for a Friday night. If you're just parking and sleeping for a few hours, a Super 8 or motel 6 in a decent neighborhood is all you need.

Here's one for $99

If you're down for camping, there are several camp grounds in the area as well.

Skip Omaha all together. Stay in Lincoln and stop at Round The Bend Steakhouse in Ashland (halfway between Lincoln and Omaha) on the way. I’d avoid Lincoln airport hotels but the ones on the eastern edge of town near the interstate should be good to go.

It is crazy how many people aren't getting that he is going to I-90 in South Dakota. West Omaha and Lincoln would be a huge waste of time.

Council Bluffs has some good safe options near the Bass Pro/Casinos. Traffic leaving town North on 29 will be mild compared to Georgia driving and it will only get better as you travel North. If you are trying to save a couple bucks, pick one of the smaller communities North or South along 29- plenty of options and most are safe places to stop.

We have indoor accommodations & amenities for our WY trip. Paying for a good night’s sleep! 😁 👍

100% The Embassy or Marriott by Cabelas in Omaha/La Vista. If you're worried about gear, you can keep it at my place. I am 5 min from those motels. PM if interested.

Sioux City is another hour and fifteen north on I29. Maybe check rates up there?
@jjohnsonElknewbie , well I put off making a hotel reservation and need to get it done today. Seeing that we will gain an hour driving out, I’m considering to look at Sioux City as a day one stop. A little further than Council Bluffs but gets us a shorter drive day two. Is Sioux City fairly safe city/place to overnight?

We stayed there on our way to Yellowstone a couple years ago. No problems when we were there.

I’ve stayed around the Omaha airport a couple of different times while going to the College World Series. I didn’t have any issues with it.

North Sioux City and older parts of town can be sketchy, but Sioux City is generally okay. It’s big enough they have several hotel options and your standard chain restaurants.
