I want to get a floorless shelter that I can use with wife and two kids, and also have a stove for hunting with one partner. I have been looking at SO Cimmaron or the Kifaru Sawtooth. Its seems like the sawtooth would have more vertical space but the Cimmaron is a bit less expensive. Anyone run both of these to compare?

I run a Cimmaron (and a Silvertip for solo trips)- it would work well for two adults and two kids w/o a stove; likewise would work for two adults w/ a stove. It's not overly spacious, but definitely adequate room for the above.

If you go that route, or any pyramid for that matter, look into lengthen the guy lines and a taller center pole- this accomplishes two things- better air flow (less condensation) and noticeably more living space; if it's really crappy weather it can easily be staked low.

I would go 8-man for your needs. I have a SO 8-man for my wife and 2 kids and all the gear and stove. Works great!

I have a Silvertip for myself and the same stove.

Yeah, I only anticipate to carry the stove with one other partner. During the summer, I would have the kids and wife.

Is the silvertip pretty much a solo shelter when a stove is added? I currently run a MS Mountainshelter, and was thinking I could put a smith stove in it when I'm alone.

Yep, its a 2-man without a stove. 1-man when you add the stove.

I like the looks of the Redcliff too! Now the decision is going to be harder. If I used it fro truck camping, do you think two cots would fit?

Yes, two cots will fit. I have the Cimarron and Redcliffe both, and for the whole family I’d
definitely go with the Redcliff.

The kifaru sawtooth is a good choice, you can sleep 2 adults and two kids for sure. This thing pack down super small and its a perfect shelter 2 hunters+stove

Depending on your size, you could also consider a SO LBO. Base-tarp-base for family camping and reduce to another configuration when more appropriate.

Im in same boat, except I have 2 hunting partners to pack for hunting, but with family I have 3 kids plus the wife.

I wanted to be able to run the stove with 3-4.

I just bought the kifaru 8 man. Ill report back upon receipt. Hopefullygives you some perspective, albeit a bit bigger than your needs most likely

x4 on the Redcliff.

Reasonable weight for two, and for two it's a palace. For a family of four + stove, I think you'd be pretty comfortable in a redcliff, especially if you brought along a tarp to store extra gear. It does fit low cots, but keep in mind that you'll be scooting in towards the center pole due to the slant of the walls. I think that fact alone pushes some people to size up. Speaking of size, here in the northeast, the redcliff is about as big as I'd want to go in the backcountry because of site selection.

Another consideration: If you were only car camping with your family, not backpacking, you could buy the cimarron for yourself and then use the $$ you save to have a stovejack sewn into a big dome or cabin tent.
