I recently bought a Hornady Match die set for 300WM thinking it would be easier to set COAL. I must be doing something wrong because I cannot get consistent seating depth. I’m aiming for 3.420” my first one will be 3.5ish so I’ll dial it down and get 3.3ish dial it again and get 3.420 thinking I’m set, the next one will be 3.430 next one 3.410. I cannot get a consistent results. Everything that should be tight is tight. Does anyone have experience with these? What am I doing wrong? My old RCBS (1990) dies we’re consistent every single time.

More than likely it's differences in the overall bullet tip length that is giving you that reading. I had the same problem until I bought the hornady bullet comparator setup that measures off of the ogive and not the tip of the bullet. Watch Sam Millard of Panhandle Precision's video about this on Youtube. He does a great job of explaining it. Only bullets I've ever seen that have basically the same overall tip length is Hammer Bullets out of Montana. Good luck

Perfect thank you.

I had this issue with a used set of PRC Hornady dies. My issue was the Allen head screw on top of the micrometer was loose so when I dialed it wasn’t turning the mic accurately. After I diagnosed it and tightened it down, everything is as it should be. I’ve got several sets of Hornady match grade dies, and haven’t had this problem ever before.
