Hornady CX?

Anyone have any experience using these?

Always liked Barns TSX but thinking about giving these a shot

I used some 110gr in a 300 blackout. No complaints, but nothing to get excited about. Killed some deer with them. Velocity was decent. Grouped ~1.75" at 100 out of a 16" Ruger American Ranch.

I used some 139gr CX in a 7mm-08, and liked them a lot. They were consistent and loaded with Varget gave me ~2700fps in a 24" Weatherby Vanguard (Howa 1500). I shot up the only box I had and couldn't find them for a while, and started loading Berger VLD-H 168's, which have been okay. I liked the 139 CX performance better though. Haven't had a chance to put them through an animal yet, but the 110CX's did just fine, so ...

I use the 190 .308 CX in my 300WSM and they are accurate with decent BC. They are going to Africa in July so will have even more data when I return on performance.

I use the 250gr cx in my 375Ruger when I can find them, they sell out about as fast as they will make them, hornday is a weird company when it comes to factory made ammunition, canceling whole lines of ammunition, changing the powder in some , so I usually buy a 10 box lot # to get consistency

It is my theory, that the problem is the current volume of the ammo sales, not so much an issue totally tied to Hornady.

Primer and Powder manufacturing companies can't produce enough to meet the demand for all the different USA companies. Plus defense contracts for Ukraine.

Here in Europe almost all the ammo plants also make powder, and most of them make primers.

RWS, Norma and Lapua in Europe and Winchester, Federal and Remington are either part of an
bigger group that makes powder and primers or make both themselves.

Hornady is a consumer and not producer of primers and powder. So they have to change lots when things are not available of SKUS that move quickly.

Hornady isn't alone.

I ran them for the first time this year. I’m running a 130gr CX in my 6.5 PRC. Took two deer this year with no problems. Neither of them made it 50 yards after the shot. Watched both fall. Complete exit on both as I would fully expect so no recovered projectiles. I only swapped from the LRX because the CX shot better and I was curious of performance. Will have a better idea after this years elk hunt.

I have only killed one deer with them but it died. The blood trail was great. Hit was a little forward on a whitetail doe at 240yds. She ran about 100yds and crashed. 6.5 creedmoor 140 Hornady CX. Only sold in Europe and in TAP ammo. I got them as seconds. I had them going 2666fps from a 20”. I’ll have to find pictures. I fired one at 350 yds into water jugs. It penetrated 7 jugs and expanded well. Interesting considering the bullet was only going 1779fps at impact.

The bullet on the left was fired into milk jugs at 350 yds the bullet on the right was at 250yds after going through 4 jugs and found in the backstop. Both are 140 CX fired from 6.5 creedmoor.

Last year killed a cow elk, whitetail buck, and a antelope doe between 350-650 yards with my 280AI and 160 CX. Never found a bullet to see what it ended up looking like after the pass through. Antelope doe and whitetail blew through the scapula with no blood shot meat on either sides. Liked that part. Tried some other bullets this year but may go back to the CX as liked the terminal performance. Never shoot a phenomenal group, was under an MOA at long ranges. Never used the LRX on anything but have done some load dev for buddys with them and could not get them to group very well.

1-8 twist. I emailed Hornady for load data as wasn't published and they said it wouldn't stabilize in a 280AI. Went with Staball 6.5 powder and was around 2900 in 22 inch barrel.

I was told the same so didn’t try, may do the 150.

I didn’t have good luck with the 160 CX in my 280AI. The 150 CX was designed specifically for the 280AI. If you give it a try, let us know how it goes

Will do, working on some hammers right now. Checking group at 400 and 885 yards as soon as I get a weather break. If that doesn’t work out, either the cx or lrx is next in the sandbox.

Hammers at 100 yards was awesome, when I was shooting at 425 the other day, I was not comfortable and didn’t shoot my best, less than moa, the verticals was at 2.5 so hoping to run out and shoot again and then stretch out to 800 to check speed,dope and group. If it works, then I’ll have 3 loads that are around 3/4 or better MOA if I do my part.
