Has anyone got their hands on any of the Hornady CX bullets in 30 caliber yet? I have only seen the 110gr available on the online retailers so maybe they just haven't hit the market at all.

Trying to get a length measurement for the 165gr and 180gr specifically for stability calculations before buying a box.

The Hornady Outfitter ammo (which has the 180cx) has been available in 300WSM so maybe just buying a box of those and pulling a bullet will be my fastest shortcut.

Have 3 boxes of the 165’s inbound. I can give you a measurement in a few days if no one else has by then.

53.5 gr of H4350 was compressed with the bullet seated to mag length in my Barret Fieldcraft 30-06. The chrono read 2575 fps for my pressure check.

The 190 gr CX may not be a good fit for this rifle. The 190 CX is very long at 1.655". For comparison, the 200 gr ELD-X is 1.530". I should've measured the 180 gr TTSX while I was loading, that may be a better bet for a mono in this rifle.

Those 190g CX's are pretty long. I'm shooting the 200g ELD-X right now and I'm crunching powder at a C.O.A.L of 3.505" I'm curious to hear from those who shoot the ELD-X how these bullets perform.

I sure like the way they expand at 3400 fps. At longer ranges not so much.

I wonder the length for the 110 grain and isn't there a 130-135? Anybody come across these yet?

30 cal 165g CX are 1.435” on average OAL and about .800” inch BTO.
So when I run that through the berger calculator is says I would be at like 1.13 SG for a 1:12 twist Which is a no go.
But Hornady replied to their video on the CX bullets to my comment and said the 180 minimum twist will be 1:12. DIdnt make a ton of sense to me...

Sure wish I could figure out the performance on 165gr cx
before I buy some barns ttsx 130 for my .308win
Simple Minded Fella shot the 165gr CX at gel at 1754 fps and there was plenty of expansion and wound channel. Hornady sets CX minimum impact velocity at 2000 fps, but different weights in different calibers can be expected to vary in performance and they tend to be a bit conservative in their suggestions and load data. I’d probably consider 1800 fps a good minimum, which gets you out to around the mid 400’s in range with their normal factory loading. That impact velocity can be pushed into the mid 500’s with mv’s near the high end of 165gr 308 performance and high elevation (I.e. if you’re chasing elk or mulies).

The 150’s should be a slight improvement for maximum range as the speed you can outpaced the lost bc .418 vs .440.

If you end up order some ttsx 130’s, my cheap little savage axis II shot well at 2.845-2.850 COL over 48.5 gr Varget. Several groups on the 0.5’s, largest one I can remember was like 0.77. MV 3044 fps. Ttsx bullets seem to be less performant at lower velocity and impact velocity may need to be above 2000 be effective. That limits the range, but it’s still a 400 yard bullet, which would be more than enough for most people.

Buddy just had a 180g cx pencil trough a moose at 100yrd broad side shot. It died but not great bullet performance. 300wsm btw

That sucks to hear. I’m a bit surprised by that. It should have impacted at above 2500 fps. That should get just about anything to open up. I don’t know how much the performance differs per bullet weight within the same caliber, but maybe that 180 is a dud. It’s also a sample size of one on both sides so no knowing what sort of failure rates that CX experiences. Gel doesn’t equal game, but it could also be your buddy was the unlucky 1:1000 who has that bullet fail at that velocity.

Very true and it doesn't make me not want to try them either. I just loaded up 20 250g cx for my 375ruger to try out.
