Hornady Ammo-Buyer Beware!

Just a heads up: Hornady is having severe enough quality control issues that I ran into two separate serious incidents with two separate lot #'s and cartridges. The first picture is an ELDX 300 PRC case after firing that left a bullet in my chamber, the second is of a bullet improperly (backwards) inserted into a case, and a loose bullet that came in a box of 6cm ELDM ammo. For years I've purchased Hornady ammo with little or no realIMG_6656.JPEGIMG_6978.JPEG

They replaced some of the 300PRC ammo with a different lot, claiming the issue was a case-size issue, which my gunsmith and several much more qualified folks than I said was absolute BS.

The 6cm issue happened today, and honestly, I don't really care what they say about that, how can I trust them moving forward if they let something like that pass their QC??? With ammo, there isn't the room for error.

It’s the nature of ammo companies crapping out ammo at a faster rate than they should to keep stuff on shelves.

I’ve seen backwards primers, bullets jammed into the case, different seating depths in the same box and that’s from other ammo manufacturers not Hornady.

If you want to 100% prevent it then load your own otherwise, call Hornady to get a replacement box and go shoot is how I see it.

I had several issues with factory Hornady 6CM 108gr eldm. I have one cartridge that won't even chamber...

In the process of dialing in a handload.

I had problems as well with the ELDX. People said I was crazy 😂. I was only shooting them to get the brass for reloading a new caliber. Stuff like this is why I never shoot factory ammo unless I absolutely have to…

I have had worse from the old Remington. Not making excuses, none of that should be boxed. I would guess it’s all automated and if there is a mistake, no inspection to catch it.

You could change the thread title to "Reasons to Reload". Inconsistencies in commercial ammo is why I started reloading decades ago, and have never once regretted it. Even when it's not as egregious as this, just Lot #1 being different from Lot #2 in enough ways that it may or may not shoot as good/fast/same/etc in my gun as the last batch is enough to turn me off.

Hornday is the worst ! I have a 375 ruger and Hornady is the only manufacturing company to load 375 ruger
Their brass is absolutely terrible maybe 2-3 reload before they are junk and crack

I personally don’t see why the eldx is so popular except for accuracy when punching paper

Ditto what NorthIdahoDude said :)
