Was loading out the last of a jug of cfe223 into some 223 cases this am. Why is it that hornady 1x fired 223 cases are so terrible to de-swage and re-prime? I have a high-speed cutter on my burstfire anealer that I use for cutting the primer pocket back out, but when I'm putting new ones in, (fed 205) they are still a pain, even sometimes after the 2nd & 3rd firing. Thinking I'm gonna toss all my 223 hornady headstamps. I see myself buying some starline 223 new brass and going that route, even if I have a pile of range & gfl, adi, fed, and win brass. I know going to starline in my 6.5g is alot less work.

If you have a pile of ADI (if ATI was a typo?), that seems like a good place to start. All the ADI i've used was un-crimped 223 though.

Sounds like your tool isn’t cutting the primer crimps out well enough. In my experience, swaging does a better job.

I like Lake City brass, but have to swage as a result. Starline is good brass and you won’t encounter a crimp on 223 (can’t speak to their 5.56 though).

Mine is sourced from a 500 rnd can of brass case fmj that i bought as loaded ammo. The primers have a 3 point pinch on the pocket, they cut out nicely.

Cutting the crimps out is inconsistent. I used to cut them but it didn’t matter what brand of brass I had they all sucked. I switched to a swaging setup and have been much happier. The RCBS swage die is slow. I need to invest in a super swager.

I had all kinds of trouble until I changed over to the RCBS primer pocket swedging tool. It makes a chamfer smooth.

Is that Dillon swager?

Run starling brass!!! I’m on the 3rd reload without having to trim. Also,

starline brass is the way to go in 223, have yet to trim after 3 times through. Winchester staball match is better powder than cfe.

I have a couple hundred pieces of star line brass for 223 and 6 creed. I am on my first loading for both cases, so far no issues. If you are not pushing for pressure/performance it seems like a good value. I just ordered a two hundred more pieces of 223 brass tonight.
