G'day,

I've got a trip into an area closed to vehicle traffic coming up in late October...target species is Sambar (Cervus unicolour) which are in the 300-700lb range with no bag limit.

The only limitations to my meat haul for this trip is geting them on the ground and hauling them out.

We will only be going in 10-15 miles in on well maintained, seasonally closed undulating fire trails....open foot traffic, cycling & horses. There is a chance of snow falling at this time of year (late spring).

I've been mulling over some load hauls options for this gig and have narrowed it down to either a single wheel cart (this HBW Game Cart | Backpacking Cart, Hunting Cart and Hiking Stroller or similar) or a mountain bike with a simple two wheeled trailer

Single Wheel cart

PRO
Can handle 250lbs (Honey Badger cart)
Packs smaller for transport
Seemingly safe way to transport big quantities of meat
Lightest option
Reportedly does not suck that much if used for off track recoveries.

CON

Slower (but when both fully loaded by how much?)
Not a dual purpose item. ie off season training/family time

Mountain Bike

PRO
Fast pace unloaded
Any downhill section is easy

CON
Doesn't seem as capable with heavy weights 80-150lb max
Increased chance of injury
Bike and trailer takes up space in truck
Harder to stash in back country
All up weight is heavier (50-60lbs vs 20lbs)
Off track recoveries not really viable.

Anyone out there have experience with carts like the Honey Badger and care to share? Good or bad experiences with bike & trailers?

Cheers,

Dinger
