Was looking at the MSR carbon core tent stakes and got me thinking I have a few easton fmj laying around and thought about cutting them down putting inserts and tips in them and making some tent stakes not sure what to do on the end that sticks out of the ground. Not sure if they would be any lighter than the MSR ones. Anyone ever done this? Also have some GT 7595s which would be a little lighter.

Only problem I've had with the arrow cut stakes is they can pull out easier with high tension. The MSR ground hogs are still the best, period. I've tried them all and keep going back to the MSR

I was also looking at the ground hogs. Was thinking about making the carbon ones 8" I might make a few just to try and see how they work.

Been wanting to try the ground hogs, but pretty much have always used the cheapie aluminum jobs. I grind the bottom of the loop edge (for lack of a better description) smooth and close them up quite a bit. That little edge will slice and dice stuff in your pack.
