Home mattress recommendations

Avocado here too. Wife's a hippie so options were limited but no regrets. It's pretty firm, called them about returning it and they sent their mattress topper free.

That sounds like pretty good service. Are you happier with it now that is has the topper?

Go stay at a Hampton inn and see how you sleep. You can buy that mattress at Hampton Home website. It is medium firm with a tight top and is 2 sided. They also use a mattress pad on it I think.

We have a Doubletree mattress that we bought on their website almost 10 years ago. We are still using it. Doubletree has changed the mattress they are using and you cant buy the one we have on the website now. We also bought the mattress pad they use.

The pads do not last as long as the mattresses. We thought we needed a new mattress. My wife was having back pain. I had the idea to take the mattress pad off. The next day she had no back pain and we both slept through the night, which we weren't doing. Slept on it like that for a week to verify it and ordered a new pad. Still using the mattress.

I think the Hampton mattress is pretty close if not the same as the old Doubletree mattress.

That’s a great suggestion, thank you!

Make sure you get a legit foundation/frame to put the mattress on too. We had a couple "bad" mattresses before figuring out the adjustable frame was contributing to the problem.

Same as some of the others here, I'd be better off sleeping on the floor than a soft mattress. Soft mattresses mess up my back in a bad way.

Costco has a great delivery/ pick up/ return policy if they have something you may be interested in.

Thanks for the heads up on Costco. When you say the adjustable frame was the problem, was it one of those adjustable bases where you could incline the head or feet, or both?

Yes. The one we had had support on the side and center but wasn't solid all the way across - I think the newer ones are. Mattress would eventually develop two low spots where we would lay because the support was lacking.

Again, the newer ones are better than the one we had. We got that one years ago when they first started coming out.

The adjustable base is great if you've got a good one.

Okay, thank you for the clarification. My wife has her heart set on an adjustable base but the one we looked at has a solid top. Hopefully it’s okay.

They do have good service (at first they tried selling top at discount, pressed the return a little harder then it was free) and if I remember right a very long warranty. Yes it's very nice. Firm with maybe two inches of foam on top to help conform.

My bad back can't handle anything even remotely firm. If I lay flat on my back on the flood, I can't even get up it hurts so bad. I'd like a super super plush if that was possible that doesn't sag after a few months. On the other hand, I do pretty well with my cot and several layers of foam when I'm hunting. So I actually travel with that setup because most hotel beds suck.

I’ve had a similar thought. I sleep great on my cot at elk camp, other than getting up to stoke the wood stove in the wall tent, but sleeping at home has been rough.

GF and I spent a whole afternoon at mattress stores hmming and hawing over different mattresses. I was mostly trying to earn bonus points in the “quality time” together department, but I also never knew there were so many options. After all that, we (she) ordered a Purple one online and we never looked back. Solid foundation is a must, and don’t overlook the pillow department. I’m mostly happy to Not sleep in the doghouse!
