In the evolution of building my house, I added a 6 ft by 8 ft mud porch with a deck- like 2x4 floor with slots to allow the dirt to fall out.

A couple of years ago I upgraded my laundry room floor. I had a baseboard heater that I hadn't used - ever. Since the power was there already I drilled a hole through the wall and moved the baseboard heater to the mudporch. With the upgrade I had to insulate the walls and ceiling as well as upgrade the door to an all weather exterior door.

I didn't think much about it until hunting season when I turned on the heat. Now when I come in - frozen and snowy - I am greeted by a warm room that will dry my outside clothes and warm my nose while I am taking off my boots. This accidental improvement is without a doubt the geatest improvement to my house that I enjoy every day.

If you don't have one -think about it. I like mine that much. If you have done something like this what is it?

Added a mudroom and "drop zone" lockers. So handy to shed it all before walking in the house, and, keeps wife happy.
