Hog Hunting Success

Me and a few other buddies are 3 days in on our hog hunt in Oklahoma.

10 hogs in the cooler so far

A few more days to go

My girlfriend shot this nice old boar while we hunted Aoudad outside of Marfa,TX in the Davis mountains.

Are all the hogs this time of year that lean? or is it location. I've eaten a few that we've killed in Nov. / Dec. after they have been eating acorns for 3-4 months and they have had a lot more fat on them than the ones shown above.

That boar in west Texas was from Dec.

First it was very very old. Second not many acorns in the Trans pecos/ Davis mountains

I would say that’s probably just a regional difference like you said - food,water,age

Nice, what set ups are most of yall hunting with?

Nice. I kill a pile of em every year too. Quick tip… skin out the lower rear leg to above the hock BEFORE you put em on the gambrel. Then you can easily cut off and won’t have a hairy dirty foot in your cooler.
