While packing out my camp + a bag of meat (80 lbs. at max) I experienced some pain.

Sorry for the skin pic but that is the point of my left hip. My right one is marked up almost as bad. What can I do to reduce this? I couldn't find a comfortable position without cinching the belt above my hips altogether.

I have a similar issue. I used Leukotape over the hip points to prevent issues during my sheep hunt. You could use most any tape to keep the blisters from building.

Make sure your belt and pants are below the pack belt. If your belt and or pants are bunched under your belt it can create utter hell as far as comfort goes.

Yep, hammer is correct!

99% of the people this happens to is due to your pants or belt causing pressure.

Does this problem happen a lot. I have never had a pack give me sores like that. Im on the verge of trying a Kifaru... planning to sell some stuff off and buy a DT3 this winter.

Try a 1 inch web Belt with basic clip. It will take care of that. Or a Kifaru Belt.

I learned quick a Wilderness belt is no bueno. Not sure what you're using, but opt for a thin belt vs double layer. Also check pack adjustment. I had a similar bruise but it was from the stays not being snug up against my lower back, allowing the belt to ride up into the gap. Aron recommended I bend them in a bit and so far it's made a big improvement.

This happens to me quite a bit actually. Pants or the belt can be the issue as mentioned. For the life of me I can't figure out why some companies have their belt loop spacing on the front just perfect to ride on both of my hip bones. The most comfortable packs I've had in the back country have been while wearing a pair of board shorts with a drawstring 'belt' and no belt loops.

Happens to me everytime my pack regardless of brand gets over 75 pounds for extended pack outs...have similar marks on my waist right now in fact....putting your pants lower would help...but still...Arcteryx, Gregory, Osprey, Mystery Ranch, Barney's, and Kifaru...they all do it....just a function of packing meat for me atleast.

Commonly found amongst those who suffer from "No Hips, No Ass" Syndrome.

HAHA I have a ghetto booty....thankfully thus me able to rock the standard stays...no hips on the other hand....well yeah just hip bones sticking out....

Consider yourself lucky Luke. I am 6' tall but only have a 17" torso length. The distance from the top of my hip bone to the bottom of my rip cage is less than 3".... to say I'm high waisted is an understatement and has made pack selection a real chore for me!

I have that same problem. The only solution I came up with was wearing my pack higher. My hip belt buckly is even or just above my belly button. I usually have to adjust the shoulder straps down for it to fit properly. I can even feel the pressure points when I'm training with thin gym shorts on.

just have to suck it up!

It happened with my old external frame pack too. So when it continued under a different pack I decided I'd ask for ideas. My pants belt is probably not ideal for heavy packing. I'll replace it with a better one and try riding my pants a tad lower.
