Has anyone used these hilleberg titanium pegs instead of the MSR stakes for their shelter? When setting up and taking down the redcliff I had a hell of a time getting the MSR stakes into and especially getting them out of frozen ground.

Not set on these specifically, so any other ideas or thoughts are welcome.

I've used the Vargo Ti pegs, both the heavyier version and lighter. Been very happy with them in hard ground, though haven't tried frozen ground. I prefer them over the MSR Groundhogs in any soil that's hard enough that I need to pound them in. If I can push them in by hand, then I only use them in less critical tie-out points.

Do you carry a leatherman with you? I've had issues getting MSR pegs out of regular hard pack, so I use the pliers from the leatherman to pull the pegs. Just a thought

That's a good idea. I have just been using a loop of cord big enough to get a few fingers inside to give me more leverage, but ended up breaking some of the cord on a few stakes bc it was a few years old and more brittle.

A nice loop of accessory cord in each peg is your best bet. It’s cheap and light. If I don’t care about weight, I have the MSR stake hammer in my car camping setup. It helps pry out stakes. But if you’re pegging into super-hard ground, any set of straight pegs work. Titanium Shepard pegs, for instance. The Vargo titanium nail peg (the strongest Vargo) is cheaper than a Hilleberg.

I have a set of the Vargo Ti pegs as well. If I know I'm going somewhere with ground that is super rocky or frozen I use them. I usually bring enough for the ground stakes and use MSR or others for the guy lines or vise-versa so I have a variety.
