I finally have sold a few pieces of un-needed and outdated gear and have the funds to purchase a new shelter.

I want to buy a 2 person all season shelter and can't decide between a few options. I like the idea of floorless but I am allergic to ants and just don't want to fully commit to a floorless for all hunts. The Paratarp will be an experiment.

Options: But open to other recommendations-

Nallo 2 with a Kifaru Paratarp 85 ounces + 13.4 ounces/29 ounces with pole kit = 98.4 / 114 so 6.15 / 7.125 pounds
This options allows for two tents. Take them both if you can stand the weight and have an enclosed tent with big vestibule, leave the Hille if it is good weather and just use the Paratarp. Or Now I have two new shelters, one for different situations.

Nallo 2GT 6.3 pounds
Same tent as the Nallo but with attached vestibule. No need for the tarp but loose the option of having two tents

Both of these tents are red label Hillebergs and have two vents. One high and one low.

Nammatj 2 6.9 pounds and already has somewhat of a vestibule and has two high vents. Inside diminsions are a bit taller than Nallo Black label.
I really like the vestibule on the Nammatj more but adding the Paratarp just gets too heavy.

Nammtaj 2GT Just weighs too much, but not totally out of the picture. Black Label.

Does anyone have a pic of a Nammatj-Nallo/Paratarp combo?

How bad is venting on a Nallo compared to a Nammatj?

What does Hilleberg mean when they post minimum weight vs pack weight? ""Minimum Weight" refers to the outer and inner tents and the poles only. "Packed Weight" includes all items that come with the tent." What else is included? Does the stuff sack weigh nearly a pound?

For example the Nallo 2:
Minimum Weight 2.0 kg/4 lbs 7 oz
Packed Weight 2.4 kg/5 lbs 5 oz

Thanks in advance

I've got a Nallo 3 and a paratarp.

I pretty much only carry the Nallo 3 when hiking with a 2nd person. If I'm solo I go with the Paratarp. Regardless which tent I'm packing I also have a Siltarp2 in the pack for emergencies or to set up around camp.

For two people I think the Nallo 2 will not be large enough. Maybe the GT would work though? The Nallo 3 is perfect for two.

none of those you mentioned are free standing if that matters. also you have to share the entrance and vestibule.

i have a soulo and have just bought an allak for 2 person trips. the free standing design isn't reliant on pitch and each person has their own vestibule and entrance to use.

Thanks for the comments. Please keep them coming. I requested a magazine so that I can better look at all of the designs.

On their website, it shows an Allak with a tarp coming off the front, kind of what I was wanting to do. Thanks ozyclint!

I personally am a fan of two seperate shelters than one tent with a big vestibule. If you want a two man freestanding look at the Allak or Jannu.

I have the Jannu but often bring along a 1.25 pound shelter to stow gear or cook in which frees up more space in the Hilleberg. Also gives you options as far as setting up a spike camp with the option to still bivy with the light floorless shelter if needed.

the staika is another option. my soulo has been through some bad conditions and has performed flawlessly so i opted for the allak since it's made from the same materials and is essentially the same design. the staika is basically the same as the allak only the material is thicker and poles are larger diameter, making it even stronger but heavier. the allak will handle anything i'm likely to encounter so i didn't see the need to go with the staika, which would handle polar or 8000m+ expeditions.
