I've always been a trail shoe hunter in the Northern California B zone areas but I will be hunting this fall in southern California, d14 and d13 due to our babies due date. I'm considering a boot or boot and gaiters just for some rattle snake peace of mind, shoot me some boot recommendations on the cushier and lighter weight side of the boot realm that you back country guys like.

Unless they are snake gators, they won’t do much for snakes. Snake gators is a step below hiking with baseball catcher legs pads.
I’ve hunted D14 plenty. You can use trail runners.

I will say, some places like San G is pretty rough, and a stiffer boot helps with my foot getting beat up, and a taller boot can help with side hilling.

The lightest mountain boot might be the lapponias still. Cushy is subjective. I would definitely swap out the insoles to superfeet. They have like 3 different ones now, you’d have to read up on which would fit what you anticipate doing.

I don’t think anything under an 8 or 10 inch thick leather boot will stop a snake bite. So probably not what you want. Snake gaiters are incredibly hot and uncomfortable. Either wear the thick tall leather boots or wear what’s comfortable and watch out for snakes

This won’t do anything for snakes, but I’ve used the Salomon forces speed assault 2 and they are great if you change the insole, definitely a trail runner feel and 10 ounces each.
