Well for you guys considering a muskox hunt, here's what my Canadian guide is recommending:
What To Bring on your Musk-ox Hunt
*Temperatures will usually be around -20C (0 F.) but can dip to -40C
(-40 F) or colder so be prepared and fully covered for Arctic conditions.
For outer wear:
- Arctic Expedition Grade jacket with hood and ski pants*Rental Available*
- Pair of very warm gloves and mittens
- Warm hat with ear flaps or wool hat (toque)
- Balaclava or insulated ski mask for the face
- Pair of good quality very warm, insulated winter boots
- Ski goggles (dark tint) for traveling on the skidoos
- Chemical hand warmers
- ALL BODY PARTS MUST BE COVERED FROM THE WIND
- You will travel approx 30 miles on the sled the first day.
- Recommended Brands are CANADA GOOSE for outerwear and BAFFIN BOOTS
For inner wear:
- Good full body underwear to sleep in
- Wool cap for sleeping in
- 4 pair of woolen socks
- 4 pair of cotton or silk socks
- Pair of wool pants
- 2 warm Hoodies or Sweaters
- Light down jacket
- Duffle bag for clothing and day pack
Equipment:
Trigger lock for gun (sometimes required by airlines)
Winterize your Gun or Bow (talk to your gunsmith about this)
Good quality Sleeping bags are provided by the outfitter
Gun and scope covers (I'm using a recurve)
40 rounds of ammo (or 4 arrows)
Pair of Binoculars
Sharp Knife and sharpening stone
Soft gun Case; for travel on skidoo (bow case)
Sunglasses, sunscreen and lip balm
Camera – remember extra batteries!
Small flashlight
Small tarp 10x10 to wrap trophy in for shipping
Large Duffel Bag for shipping trophy
Personal items, prescriptions and towel
Canadian Cash for Licenses
