Can anybody give me an idea of the pressure in Hermosa Creek wilderness if a guy were to come in from the very end of county road 204? Looking to head north from there, but wonder if that is what the majority do in that area. Not afraid of hiking a distance, just want to get any local insight. PMs are welcome and I could give you a better idea of my plan as of now.

Let me clarify since I got a PM stating that my question is karmic suicide, I do not want your spots or help finding elk. I'm simply asking for a feel on the number of rigs I'm likely to see that use the same point of entry. If nobody cares to respond, that's okay, I can figure it out when I make the drive. Just thought someone could tell me whether or not I'll be fighting a crowd when I get there.

I've found it best not to worry about crowd, no crowd, it's Colorado chances are it's crowded. Don't walk in far enough and you'll be fighting the backpackers and go too far and you'll be with the horsemen.

That's just up the road from my house. You talking about taking Co road 204 to Forrest service road 171 to access some of the above timberline country around Kennebec Pass? I feel like that open country is all easily glassable from the road. What's not open tends to be impossibly thick scrub oak. The good news is that you'd be able to check it out and asses pressure fairly quickly with a ~40 mile round trip drive. There are some wicked rugged Mtn bike trails that lead down into hermosa creek. I'd expect some horses, especially on Hermosa Creek trail. All in all, scrub oak is the enemy in that area. Rock out croppings and steep river canyons can be significant limiting factors for getting around as well. It'll be tough to commit to off trail travel. I'm sure there are elk around, though.

I went. It was the most crowded place I've ever hunted. Saw a mountain lion on the way in, which was cool. But there were rigs everywhere and we ran into a lot of people. Headed elsewhere to avoid some of the pressure. YMMV
