I just got an X-Bolt Stainless Stalker in a 300 H&H Mag with a Swaro 3-10x42mm scope. Now I need to figure out what I am going to do with mounting the scope. I do a ton of backpack hunting with the rifle in and out of an Eberleestock backpack and on the back of a smaller day pack. I also throw the packs on a 4-wheeler and go in on some very rough roads. I also throw the rifle into a hard case and it goes in the back on my Honda Pioneer and bounce around with it. I also do some horseback hunting, so the scope mounts need to be rock solid.

I have only used Weaver style mounts before. I have never had any problems with them, but is there something better (stronger and lighter) than them? I really like the looks of the one-piece Talleys but they only come in aluminum and I am thinking I want to stick with steel. The steel, two-piece standard Talleys are a little more than I want to pay, but if they are solid, I could go that route. I don't know anything about Dual Dovetails. How solid are they?

I would like to keep the weight and cost down on this purchase because I have kept the weight and cost down fairly well on the purchase of the rifle and scope.

Have an xbolt hells canyon on my wishlist. It will get a 0 degree rail mount paired with leupold qrw rings, just like most of the arsenal.
The eight bolt mount system was a big plus in my choice

Does anyone have an opinion on Warne mounts? I am kicking around going with the Warne two-piece stainless steel Weaver-style bases with the Warne Maxima 1" medium stainless steel rings. I want to stick with steel components and prefer stainless steel because I am putting these on a Browning X-Bolt Stainless Stalker rifle.

I am a little leery of aluminum mounts because of the abuse I put on a rifle. How much heavier will the Warne mounts be than say Talley aluminum mounts? Is it okay to mix and match aluminum and steel mounts?

In Stainless you'll need to look at Talley, Murphy Precision, or NEAR. Warne makes a regular steel offering in a silver finish, but it's not Stainless. NEAR doesn't list a base for the X-Bolt, but if you contact Richard I'm pretty certain he'd make you one.

I was recommending Warne two piece steel bases and Aluminum TPS HRT rings. This is a reasonably light robust setup. You'll have no issue with the aluminum rings mated to the steel bases, just torque to spec. This will be heavier than Talley one piece Aluminum mounts, but lighter than the same setup with TPS HRT steel rings (they make them in both materials) or the Leupold PRW steel rings another poster suggested above.

Additionally, I'm not a fan of vertical split ring designs. IMHO, they're invariably more difficult to mount, but to each their own. That said I do use Tactical Solutions aluminum quick release rings, but TacSol Tru-Tac Rings are only made in 1" medium height.

I would go with an aluminum one piece rail with some good rings to match. I have been happy with TPS products. You have to make the steel to aluminum transition somewhere on your mounting system. I would just try not to do it more then once.

How about an all-in-one aluminum setup with a one-piece aluminum base and aluminum rings like the DNZ Game Reaper mount? Are aluminum bases stronger when they are a one-piece setup versus a two-piece setup?

Does anyone know how much a set of Warne rings and bases weigh? If they aren't too much, that's probably the route I am going to go. If they are considerably heavier, then I am looking at either Talley 1-pieces or the DNZ's.

All Weights in Oz. I included the option that I recommended above.

That's good info Kingston. I contacted Warne to get some weights on their bases and rings. The rings are 5.2 oz and the bases are 1 oz. I don't think that is too bad considering they are steel and my rifle isn't a super light setup...6 lbs 13 oz on the rifle and 12.8 oz on the scope. That will put the overall setup at 8 lbs. I will check to see if I can find the silver Warne mounts in Cabelas and see how the silver matches up with the stainless steel barrel on the rifle.

I got the Xbolt and used the Leupold weaver style with a Vortex scope. With the Xbolt system to lock these rings in, you will be fine. It will take a really good hit to move these out of shape. They are designed to be almost impossible to move.

They do not offer any bases or rings with the rifle. The rifle just comes with a couple of yellow screw-hole covers so that you can chose which ever style you want to go with. The Browning website recommends going with the lightweight, one-piece Talley mounts, but I don't really want to go with aluminum. I just ordered the silver steel Warne bases and rings and they should be here in the mail today. Hopefully, everything fits together well so that I can shoot the rifle this weekend.
