Saw my first mk 5 go through a tracking test yesterday and it failed. Somewhere in the mid 20s MOA range of elevation adjustment the reticle just stopped moving. The turrets were still turning and clicking as normal, but there was no reticle adjustment happening. The other 12+ scopes put to the test (Khales, zco, a few gen 2 PST, and bushnell) performed well with all being less than 0.1 Mil off through 10 mils of elevation.

If you must buy a Leupy, go Mark 5...just don't accidentally drop it from a short distance or bang it lightly up against a treestand ladder, etc and you will be fine. Leupy has good glass, they just don't like to hold zero. If holding zero in hunting conditions matters to you, well I'd look at other brands...

With the long range capabilities of the PRC I’m assuming you plan on using the optic for dialing?

If so, go for the Mark 5. Do not rely on a VX-6 or VX-5 for dialing and tracking. Been there and done that and been burned more than once.

If you aren’t dialing the VX-5 is a good scope at your 40% off deal.
Old post but... If my vx6 passed a tracking test, would you trust it to hunt with? Or should I be looking for a Nightforce?
