In late May I will be doing a Backpack Safari (Rifle) for 7 days in the mountains of Namibia Africa for Mountain Zebra and other game. It is strictly on foot and I need a backpack that is at least 6500 and need some advise on what pack you would recommend. I am looking at Kifaru as I have a late season that I like a lot. I will be hauling all my gear rifle, and water, and possibly some meat, hides. Recommendations would be appreciated,

Thanks for your input.

Well from the Kifaru range there is plenty to choose from:

EMR - if you want a big bag with a centre zip which folds down to a day pack easily.
AMR - if you want a BIG top-loading bag with a bottom zip too
Argali - if you want a lighter-weight top loading bag

All three full fill your size requirement (at least 6500 ci).

My preference would be the AMR... I do not like the strap configuration of the EMR and I am not all that attracted to centre zip arrangements. The AMR also has the additional pockets and webbing to attach more pockets/organisers etc.

Whatever you get, I'd suggest the hunter frame with composite stays (26") for max lift.

Whatever you pick, get it soon so that you can start training with it to make sure that it carries the weigth well and fits you properly. If it doesn't work for you by end of March you still have April to find one that does work for you.

jlw, I suggest that you give Aron a call at Kifaru. He will make sure you have everything you want/need. However, I guess you should have included a budget, but since this is for an already expensive trip I would assume it is pretty high. Kifaru is the most expensive, but they are worth the price. Tuscor listed some good info and I own the EMR. Aron's phone number is 720-937-1418.

I he new Kifaru duplex with pack of your choice or Exo 5500. The Exo holds more than advertised. If more space is needed add a nice drybag between frame and pack. Pulling out drop at camp and hunt

Thanks to all who replied, I did call Aron and spoke with him about my needs, duplex ordered, thanks again

Sounds like a bad ass adventure - please share the trip when you get back with plenty of pictures if you don't mind. That sounds like one trip down there I could get enjoy.
