I don't think you can overlook how certain items fit you, I have some FL things that work great, but much of my stuff is kuiu as it just fits me better....goodbye to big, heavy bulky stuff.

I agree totally!!! I have different pieces I love from many different performance gear companies. I have found my needs also change each season in the mountains! Best thing is ask specific recommendations like 'what is your favorite lightweight jacket and what features make it so'...

Also "elk hunting" can mean a wide range of styles and levels of physical difficulty which also change for you as you get wiser.

That being said here some recommendations:

1. Best soft/comfy jacket & pant combo for mild weather- Sitka 90%

2. Best packable insulation- KUIU superdown vest

3. Toughest Pants for rocky areas for stalking/glassing/busting brush- Sitka Timberline

4. Best breathable layers- merino from First Lite or KUIU 145

5. Best Gloves for keeping warm fingers - I STILL HAVENT FIGURED OUT YET

Good Luck!

For me, I choose to wear Sitka. The athletic fit is just more my style, and I am a huge fan of GORE. Not particular on any of the patterns, I wear them all.
