Help me lighten my pack

Yep, I’ve said it before, and I don’t think it’s a popular thing. But I agree completely.

It’s also cheaper!

Tarp and bivy, no trekking poles, no tripod, instant coffee powder, and water purification tablets - no filter system. Those are a few of my biggest “hacks”.

If the pack is light enough, I won’t use the trekking poles anyway. Rest the binos/spotter on your pack frame when you sit down - no tripod needed. Not as comfortable, but you can sure drop some base weight by doing some of these unpopular things.

It’s all hunt dependent of course. Some hunts you just need a comfortable glassing setup. But on that kind of hunt, you sit and glass, therefore not necessarily moving with the weight all day like on a call-heavy hunt style, or a still hunt/timber sneak all day kind of thing.
good points. I think the least I would go with is binos and trekking poles. although binos on pack isnt a bad idea,

trekking poles work with tent/if I get bivvy etc.

Food and water is what determines my pack weight. I’m pretty light to start with, I don’t take many “comfort” items and I don’t eat much so that helps. I just did a five day 70 mile hike and my pack weighed 35lbs. I have found that the comforts make a pack heavy, just like having a solution for every contingency can get heavy.

If I’m lighter, I don’t need as much food or water and I can also move more efficiently. It’s pretty simple, but hard to actually execute. It took me a couple of years to get it right, and I’m not really sure if I’m exactly where I want to be.
