help me decide, 270 vs 308 or look for another rifle?

Lineman, not that you'd want to drive, but I was at the Sidney Cabela's last Friday and they had a whole shelf of .22 lr. Limit was 1200 rds. per person. I got mine!

Going to be up that way bird hunting next Fri so might make a detour. Still nothing on the shelf last time I was at the store down here and 100rd limit.

Cost at Cabela's in Sidney was just over .07 per round. Picked up some yesterday at our local Sportsmans Warehouse for about .08 per rd. That seems to be about the going minimum now which seems reasonable to me.

That's over a 100% increase just since 2013 (when demand was insane). How on earth can it cost 100% more to make simple little .22 rounds than it did 2 years ago during the ammo rush? On top of that, commodity prices have tanked since then as well, so I know material costs aren't higher. So "reasonable" is all relative to the timing and situation. I don't find 100% increase as reasonable at all. A lot of the .223/5.56 ammo has come back down to pre-2013 levels. The only reason .22 could be kept high is that they just aren't producing any for whatever reason.

My summer carry rifle for grizzly bears when backpacking is a 308 win with 200 grain partitions or a frames. 308 does all I need but somehow I still own 338-06, 338 wsm, 325 wsm, and a 375 hh.

But hard to beat the 308 all said and done especially when sub 5 pounds before adding ammo. I sure am a lot more accurate with it than the giant hand cannons that nearly weigh the same amount.

Either of those rounds will be good with the right bullets.

I would say .308 if the ranges are long.

If I owned the two rifles you did there's no way in hell I'd buy a new one to hunt elk. Either of those calibers will serve you well.

Actually, what I'd probably do is sell them both and find a pre 64 Model 70 Featherweight in 30-06.

Why limit yourself like this? Load some 150s in it and shoot away. The 308 is way more than a 250 yard gun.

Agreed, but I would personally would go with 180s at 2700 fps than 150s at 2900 fps. Both will work though will beyond 250 yards though.

22LR isn't that hard to find, it's just hard to find at a decent price. $.10/round is ridiculous.

I agree, .223 doesn't seem so expensive to shoot anymore when you find a good deal on it, think last time I purchased it 0.32 a rd for Norma Tac ammo on closeout. I'm sure you can even find it cheaper. Heck I bought .308 win brand ammo today on sale for 0.75 a rd. 22lr is way too expensive for what it is, I save it for my kids to shoot.
