I have found two packs for sale at what I think is a good price. One is a MR Glacier which is 4270 CI in Abyss and the other is a Terraplane which is 5004 CI in evergreen.

I think the Glacier is the size for me but it is Abyss (black) and I was wondering if anyone had problems with a black pack in the sun heating up the contents of the pack? Not that the Evergreen one would be that much better?

The other question I have is for the additional cost of about $30 I could have the larger pack. Can it be said that bigger is always better for these style packs?

I will be primarily using one for weekend or 3 - 4 day trips at the max.

Your thoughts?

Terraplane is the pack that put them on the map. Either will suit you fine, just depends on which size you want. Personally I'd never need more than a 4200cu pack for 3-4 days

Well I bought a MR Glacier 70L from of all paces Sierra.com. It arrived yesterday and I am impressed with the quality of the pack. The best part is that I only spent $160 shipped to my house. Apparently they are a clearing house for MR and they wanted that particular model gone. I got one in Pewter instead of Black and I can't wait to try it on.

They also had Terraplanes on clearance so anyone who is looking at either of these models should check out Sierra.com for a great deal.

Imo you did great! I too last year after much research bought the Glacier for myself and my son. Being rated for 90 pounds and roughly the same size as the Metcalf with IMO a better layout with the pockets it is everything I could ask of it. I added Kifaru straps and the grab it to essentially have the meat shelf in reverse. I have done a lot of training with up to 75 pounds and it has carried very well.

Good luck with it!
