Help insert glue problem

I took the advise of a respected manufacture of inserts /outserts and used 2 part Loctite 24 hour epoxy on my last batch of arrows and have now lost 3 VPAs to my Reinhardt 18-1 target, first time this has ever happened. Is there a way to remove the rest of the inserts from my other CE Maxima red arrows without damaging them so I can go back to my gorilla super glue? As hot as its here a my place right now I would really like to wrap one of my new destroyed arrows around a certain persons neck right now.

If the OD is such that it uses and insert, you can pull the nock and use a drill bit like a slide hammer. I recommend a zip log bag held to the shaft with a rubber band to catch the insert/bit. Low temp hot melt is what I recommend.

Did you clean the inside of the shaft with acetone? Sounds suspect that they are pulling out. As already mentioned, a drill bit or bow axle through the knock-end can knock out an insert.

Very funny, ya I did clean inside of shafts but I've always used alcohol. I had a small piece of brass rod and they came out real easy.

Some alcohols are oily, make sure you only use like 90%+ Isopropyl alcohol to clean the inside. Other possibilities.......you got a bad batch, you mixed it wrong, or didn't allow them to set up properly. 2-part 24 hour epoxy is 100 times better at holding inserts in than Gorilla Super Glue. I'd challenge anybody to try and get my inserts out. Gorilla Super Glued ones pop right out with the drill bit method. But I've actually flattened the back end of inserts that are in with epoxy, and bulged out the arrow at that point trying to swing them out.

I agree with this ^^^^. I've had inserts glued in with epoxy that unwound the carbon while removing with a little heat and the drill bit method. The arrow was of course ruined. Also, one thing that wasn't mentioned is to be sure to also clean the inserts prior to installing. I use either denatured alcohol, 90% IPA or acetone to clean both the shaft and the insert. I've also had good luck with Bohning Insert Iron.

thanks for the reassurance, I was pretty nervous after reading that. But the guy I talked to said to be sure to use acetone. He told me that if I build them right and take the care to clean things properly with acetone they will be almost indestructible since they are stainless steel half outs

Remove the nock, drop in a drill bit and swing hard. At a safe backstop of course. Then use the black AAE Max Impact glue and your issues go away.

Ya, I'm going back to my gorilla super glue never had a problem with it. I am going to switch to acetone for cleaning though.

That's interesting. I've never had a problem getting the Super Glued inserts out, but the 24 hour 2-part epoxy inserts NEVER come out.

I've never been able to get an insert of any type, or with any glue, out using the drill bit trick. All I ever got was a tired arm and a sore hand. I used gorilla glue for years and never had a problem. You couldn't get them out with a side cutter and pliers.

Only took 3 or 4 hits on each one and they came out.

I use loctite 406 and never clean the shaft or insert. I just shake the dust out after cutting the shaft to length and glue straight in. I have NEVER had a insert pull out.
