Brief summary

Had the opportunity to run the knife through two caribou. On arrival the knife was impressively sharp, honestly sharper than any knife I’ve had, I will be learning that skill.

No hand fatigue working the two bulls up, very satisfied w blade shape and size while maneuvering through the animal and skinning them. I brought along a regular cheapo CBK to compare and used it some along side this version. A Morakniv was also used along side, totally different class of build, but if someone is on a budget it doesn’t suck either.

At first grasp I prefer the original CBK handle shape (not material/grip feel). In use I prefer the shorter blade of @HereinAZ’s version, the handle was an after thought when the work began.

The knife is very slicey and excelled at thin cuts of Biltong during the trip, this compared to three other knives. Maybe trivial to some, but I had a ton of Biltong on hand for this trip, it is not easy to slice thinly.

The green handle color stood out very well and was easy to spot. I believe I ordered orange, @mxgs’s orange fetish is growing on me as I’m tired of losing stuff.

I have a couple “nice” custom knives that sit in drawers, this one will be riding in the Bino harness for the foreseeable future.

I bought this one from Dixie before the zipper was made. I broke down and quartered up my entire moose with it without sharpening. Was able to process a front quarter too. Very nice knife. Looking forward to getting another one as a backup.

I added a custom G10 orange/green stack option for the handle. It will be orange and green ply.

If you do not want changes, your knife will ship as ordered. If you make changes, it will not affect when your knife ships because I expect all the handles and sheaths to arrive at the same time.

Handles and sheaths are in production.

Blades are getting sharpened now. When I get back from my hunt, sharpening and laser customizing will be completed.

When handles and sheaths come, it will be a matter of assembly and shipping.

Like @Bluumoon said, these knives are hand sharpened beyond what you would get from anyone but custom makers. I am making an effort to develop a pattern and method to make it repeatable and fast to sharpen. I haven’t been able to find a shortcut (other than economy of motion and speed).

I am running from 120 grit to 800 and then a finish polish.

It’s hard to describe how slicy sharp I like my knives…

It’s the G10, but pic is of the configuration Dixie uses for his full customs.

If anyone gets a handle type they really don’t like, I will swap them out. Most people will probably understand difference in micarta/G10, but I have to admit I never handled a micarta handle knife until recently. If you are the same, we won’t make it difficult for you.

As soon as I have some pictures, I’ll post them up but it probably wont be before the deadline to make changes.

I will say it again, I see/feel no functional difference between G10 and Micarta. There is more visual difference to me than there is practical difference.

Thanks for all your work with this project.

What’s your recommendation for an order with multiple knives, if they have different configurations? The Google form appears to be setup for one style, and I want to make a slight change for one knife but not make the rest of the order the same as that one.
