Help - Fabric silnylon ripstop

Can you guys post some.links to the fabric you use for silnylon dry bags and such. I was thinking the lightweight square pattern ripstop but there are so many options online I have no clue what I'm looking for. Hoping to make a few bags and possibly a rain fly depending on price of fabric

You can get riptop nylon 2nds on ebay for dirt cheap. I use 1.1 oz for shelters. I would probably use closer to a 1.9 for a bag but 1.1 or 1.3 would be fine for a pack cover.

I pretty much get all my material from ripstopbytheroll.com. 1.1oz silnylon would be a decent place to start for simple pouches and what not.

If you are a newb i would steer you towards PU coated nylon rather silnylon. Silnylon is a slippery devil and a real pain to work with. Here are a couple of projects from PU nylon.

But the picture doesn't look like it has the square pattern does that not matter?

The square pattern is calendaring. Not generally necessary but I believe there is a FAQ on the ripstopbytheroll website that explains it.

The square pattern is the ripstop threads. Calendaring is a process that smooths the surface of the material and also helps with down proofing a material. Two different things.
