Help 3 pin MBG ascent pin slider setup

Given the following info:
1. I shoot a 60lb draw
2. I train at 60 to 70 yards
3. I would not feel comfortable shooting at an animal beyond 45 yards.
4. I would love the trick pin capability

How does one determine the best 3 pin setup for hunting?

Do I need to provide the speed of my bow?

Any help would greatly be appreciated

I’d set your pins up 25,40,50. That’ll cover 90% of your hunting scenarios without having to move your sight.

Or make it super easy and go 20, 30, 40, and use the bottom pin as the slider pin. Then you can use the slider to extend the range out to 60-70. The best setup depends on your hunting conditions. Do you normally have close range shots, or longer range. Just see what works best for you. Experiment and see what the difference in impact would be at 40 and 45. You could dial it, or just remember it and hold over that distance.

I’ve got the 5 pin so I set 20,30,40,50, 60. 60 is my max on a living creature so once hunting season rolls around I lock it down and forget it’s a slider. During the off season my bottom pin gets me out to 100 easily. Since your max is 40 I’d set 20,30,40 and do the same.

Here is how I do mine, for what it’s worth:

1) center the middle pin in the dead middle of the housing
2) roll the sight all the way up and sight the middle pin to 20
3) sight in at 60 to get my sight tape
4) roll the sight to 40 and sight the top pin at 30 and the bottom at 50

If I am shooting at 20 yards or under I know I can roll the sight up until it stops and let an arrow go. If I want to shoot further than 50 I can dial it down and have a sight picture resembling a single pin with my aiming point in the center of the housing.

The best three pin set up depends on what and where you hunt.
I have two MGB sights on my my bows. On my open country rig I go 25-35-45 and float the middle pin.
On my whitetail rig I have 4 pin MGB and its 20, 30,40 50 with the bottom pin floated.

Sometimes for my dedicated elk set ups I go 25 45 and 55. And shoot bottom pin for everything under 40.

I just set up my new MBG 3-Pin a couple weeks ago. Pins are set at 20, 30, 40; with the 40 being the "slider" out to 90. The arrow speed is CLOSE to the sight tapes but not exact.

On my whitetail rig I have 4 pin MGB and its 20, 30,40 50 with the bottom pin floated.

Confused...you shoot a 55 yard "bottom pin" for shots under 40? Top pin, the 25 yard one makes more sense to me???

Yes sometime my brain and fingers arent on the same page.

I use the 25 yard pin dead on for anything I think is under 40. Its pretty idiot proof unlike my phone.

I set my three pins at 20,30,50 with the 50 pin being the slider, I like to have more clearance around the slider pin for a better view of my target, and if I have an animal at 40, I either gap my pins or slide the 50 pin up to 40 and hold right on

For what you described as what you are going to be doing, I completely agree with ORarcher; 25, 40 and 50 and gap. Spot on advice.

I set my 3 pin setup at 20, 30, and 50. I like having the clearer sight picture around the slider. The gaps are small enough that gap shooting 40 is easy. This way I am set up out to at least 50 yards without having to move a thing, and have a nice clear sight picture for the slider for longer shots.

i called SandS about my sight i ordered from them.

mine is a five pin. he said NOT to roll the sight all the way up and set the 20 there. he suggested i set the slider flush at the top - there is a tactile indent in the slider i can feel at this position. i can (closed eye) feel the slider drop into the home position. then set my 20 from there. i havent been able to hit the side of a barn from the inside at 60, so i have not messed with the slider.

I have a MBG 3 pin slider and have it set up for 30 40 50 and love it. Like I saw a few times above I am not comfortable shooting at live animals over 50 unless everything is absolutely perfect and if it is I would have time to slide the sight. But with it at 30 40 50 and my bottom pin as a slider i can shoot 50 and in without touching my sight. Just my own 2 cents!
