new to the forum, great info on here. I'm from the LML of British Columbia. primarily trad bowhunter with compound back-up. prefer backcountry hunting/flyfishing, the longer the hike, the better the hunting/fishing for me. this year will be the first for my 9 year son heading further than 2hrs off road. any suggestions for a good pack for him? usually he takes his school pack with food and change of clothes, this year he is determined to pack all his own gear.

Welcome TM. This is a great site with lots of good reading and some excellent advice. I'm in northern BC and just getting into backcountry mountain hunting and have learned lots here. As for a pack for your son, go light as possible but something that has some type of support/ frame. Depending on how much you want to spend there are a number if options out there. Also make sure you get something that fits him. Once you figure out some pack options watch the classifieds on this site, there are some good deals if you watch.

I went with a MEC Brio 50 for my daughter. It's not the lightest, but the price was fair and it fit her well. She used it on a 3 day mt goat hunt.

It's under the rain cover from a Badlands....
