Helinox Cot Users - What Pad?

So last year I purchased the Helinox Cot One cot. I used it for a 10 day hunt in WY in conjunction with a nice 2.5" thick roll style pad in our base camp and it was excellent. This fall we're going to Alaska so the big roll pad is staying at home.

Yesterday I tested a Kylmit Insulated Static V-Lux on the cot, as well as an Exped Syncellmat 5. The Exped seemed to be the clear winner as the Kylmit felt like I was sleeping on a trampoline when paired with the cot. There was far too much "bounce" in that combination.

While the Exped is quite comfy, I was wondering what other pads guys might be using on this or any cot. How thick? What insulation? Weight? While weight isn't the #1 concern it will be something to consider as we can only fly in with so much gear per man. I would very much like to avoid the feeling that I'm sleeping on a balloon as well.

Thanks for any insight anyone might have.

You shouldn’t need too much regarding insulation and there’s no reason to spend a ton of $$, unless you just want to invest in a really nice, high R value, light wt. pad. That said, my recommendation would be a $30 Thermarest Z-pad. I’ve used one in combination with my Helinox cot and it works well. They’re light wt., cheap, very durable (you don’t have to worry about puncturing them), and can also be used as a sitting/glassing pad.

I use my Exped winterlite. Think it is 2.8" thick. Same pad I would use on the ground. Not sure if I would use the klymits due to the open construction may be drafty on a cot.

Sounds like you overinflated the Klymit pad. Let some air out of it, especially when you put it on a cot.

I did try that as well. It did improve with less air in it but still had a decent amount of bounce. Perhaps it was just a personal preference thing for me. Thanks for the opinions thus far.

No worries. Klymits seem to be far less bouncy for me than any of the other pads I've tried, and I can NOT do those with vertical baffles like the Exped pads.
