Heel pain/blister

I have some Crispi Idaho's that just give me a ton of pain in the back of my heel, which then leads to a blister. I love the design of the boot, but after almost 100 miles hoping some break in period would help, there's no change. Today I hiked up and down 1800' and pain was so bad I'm nearly ready to throw the boots in the garbage. I modified the lacing such that there was a gap where the boot folds at the ankle, still no luck.

Has anyone had this issue and changed something such that the boot ended up working for you?.. or is it just time to cut my losses? Do I just need to wear them until I build up enough dead skin protection? I've not tried moleskin or lucotape as I'd prefer to find a solution that just enables me to throw a sock on and go.

Thanks.

"that just enables me to throw a sock on and go."
Get ready to buy lots of boots and walk in every conceivable manner to get down to this...you might get lucky as boots are a personal and it will work. I was in CO this past week and my kenetreks seemed to be fine with just a cheap pair of cotton socks and when I moved up to what I was planning on hunting in, a cheap liner and thicker wool socks gave me trouble. So I am going to buy a few different styles of socks and liners to see what combo works best.

It sounds like you have problem feet. Do you have heel spurs? Because that sounds exactly like what I just went through - 30+ pairs of boots later I decided that the achilles heel pads from Silpos was the magic that I needed. I'd love to find a boot that just fit without them, but with spurs its not an option. The boots that do fit, hurt the hell out of my heels on inclines and I either get blisters or it just downright HURTS.

I know, it aint the socks and boot solution you're looking for, but don't discount it.

That’s very unfortunate in your situation. Great boots. I run the Crispi Nevada and have not had any issues from day one. I wear most days (early archery) just a Smartwool merino liner sock. In the later rifle hunts here I wear a slightly thicker FL merino wool sock for warmth not protection. Feet come out of my boots dry no matter the temperatures. Try merino wool socks and maybe moleskin. I’ve have hunting buddies that use duct tape on their heels. Just some thoughts and perspective.

Try socks with more cushion, like the Kenetrek Alaska wool socks. I use the Kenetrek Ultimate Liner sock under them. If you decide to use Leukotape, don't put it on over a blister, put some gauze over the blister before applying the Leukotape. A combination of the tape and thicker socks should be a fix if you do get a blister, but socks with more cushion should work well by itself in your current situation.

You're not alone, I had the exact same problem with my Idaho's. I loved the boot, but they ate my heels up. I tried lots of socks, prolly 10 insoles and combination of insoles, and lacing techniques. Basically concluded there's just too much volume in the heel pocket for me. But, I'm now going through the same thing with a pair of schnees. I just ordered a pair of the heel pad sockie things yesterday, that someone mentioned above. Fingers crossed. If that doesn't work, it's back to my beloved Salomon quests that fit like a glove.

Love my Idaho's. Good luck figuring out a solution. Once fitted right for your feet they should take care of you.

Same thing here. Tried the Valdres & the Lapponias, with the same result. When hiking inclines, the back of my heels would either rub raw or just plain hurt. I really liked the Lapponias, so I even called Crispi for advice and they just said "sorry, maybe our boots just don't work for you". I swore it felt like there was a stitched seam or something that was causing the pain, but there wasn't and I couldn't figure it out. I switched to a pair of Scarpas and they felt great at the back of the heel, just a little stiff. Now I'm trying some Danners, which I know aren't 'popular' here, but they seem to be working for now.
