Heavy bolt lift

Update on heavy bolt lift, got it back from Bergara, and still has heavy bolt lift. They said the chamber needed polishing. Shot 8 rounds thru it and bolt got heavier after each shot. Tried to contact Bergara today but have still not received a call back and waited on line for over 45 min. I can’t even sell the rifle if I wanted to with this problem. Frustrated to say the least

I am far from an expert on this topic, but I’m pretty sure I have experienced something similar recently and have read more and more about it lately…

So, I had a Rem 700 clone lock up on me at the end of a fairly quick 10 shot string while shooting what had been up to that point a pretty mild load (no pressure signs and moderate speed). I had to beat the bolt open with my fist after the 10th shot. While I’ve never had this happen before, I’ve only been shooting with a suppressor for the last few months, and not previously in the warm months.

Long story short, I’m somewhat convinced that it was excessive heat buildup in the barrel/chamber due to a suppressor that maybe allows for higher pressure (it’s not advertised as a “flow-through” design, whatever that means.)

I’m new to this suppressor heat buildup concept and I’m still not sure of the mechanics of it all, but maybe you could try shooting without the suppressor and see if that changes anything? Or let it cool longer between shots?

Just a thought.

Not saying this is it, but I just spend a lot of time having pressure issues with loads that shouldn’t be even close . I ended up having an undersized chamber. Sent it to a good gunsmith and he opened it up with a fresh reamer and solved all problems.
