Headspace is wrong after swapping Sig Cross factory 308 barrel for 6.5

I have a Cross that came in 308 and bought two factory barrels with extensions in 6.5 with the idea that they were plug and play. I placed a snap cap round in the chamber and cant close the bolt.

Am I missing something? How could the headspace be so far off?

I would have expected the barrel to be headspaced as well, but that's why you check it. Watch this video and you'll see how you can adjust the headspace. For what it's worth, a snap cap is probably an "ok" way to check function, but I'd go with a dedicated go/no-go gauge.

Thanks, I ordered a real set of guages as well as the rest of the required tooling (1 1-16 crows foot, barrel vise ect.).

Do you think somehow there is a different headspace based on different sig cross models and calibers? Im just wondering if anyone else had this issue?

I wouldn’t think there’d be a difference between the models. I swapped my dad’s 6.5 CM barrel for a 22 CM prefit from Proof. Came with the barrel extension installed and headspace was spot on.
