Headlamp

yes it works, but if in need to pull my headlamp out, i dont want to mess with opening battery compartment and flipping batteries around. i expect a light to work when needed.

Agreed, just a trick I used to use before the LED days.

My opinion the best headlamp out there, the Fenix HL60R and currently on sale at REI for $56.00 thru labor day

Not to derail this thread, looking for some user feedback. I have currently narrowed it down to Zebralight (either the H600c MK IV, H600Fc MK IV, or H604c) or the Nightcore HC65. Purpose for the headlamp is strictly hunting, backpacking. Anticipated duration would be 5-12 days. Use is for the obvious, following trails back to camp, field dressing animals, etc. Environment would be anything from arid dry West Texas, to the forests of NM and CO, to the bush in Alaska/Yukon/BC.

The Zebralight website is nothing short of abysmal. I would love to see actual video and measured distance on throw comparing the the Spill+Spot, Floody, and the Flood. It would help make up my mind. Only found a comparison b/w the Floody and Flood on youtube, and based off of that I would go with the Floody.

Nightcore seems drastically more user friendly, is lighter weight as well (maybe an ounce difference, but ounces count).

I know there is a cult following with the zebralights. I read through the entire post/review from Beendare. It was helpful, but it may have left me with more questions than answers. lol.

Thougts?

Ringworm-

I have no experience with the Nitecore (I have a nitecore flashlight and like it for the limited amount of time I use it), but I have a Zebralight MK II Floody in neutral white and I absolutely love it. Several of my friends have ordered their own after seeing it in use also. Its light, bright as hell on high with the ability to dim it down low enough for reading a book in the dark, battery seems to last forever, and its built tough.

I remember when I was trying to figure out which zebralight I wanted, there were some forums (maybe candlepower?) that had a lot of comparison pictures of the different models, which was more useful for me than the videos.

Thanks for the info. I have asked the folks in Candlepower for some additional input. Very much appreciated Sir, thank you.

I second the Zebralight for pure illumination. Can’t remember the model but its a AA Floody version. H53FC I think.

I also carry a Princeton Tec Remix that is a primary Green LED headlamp that is bright enough to walk with. It’s also available with Red LED’s.

Fenix HM50R--been using one since they first came out. Just recently bought another one for my son. Very compact and rechargeable battery last for a typical 2-3 days of use out in the field. If needed, I carry a spare CR 123 battery just in case. I have the Zebra too, but it's just too big and heavy.

I'm getting away from AA/AAA lights. I hate it when the batteries leak when you forget it in your car/truck/pack. I will see if this cheapy headlight can be saved...

Investigate Maxtoch lights on Ali Express. They have been developed by Kiwi hunters collaborating with the Chinese company. They are simply the best and very competitively priced. They have a newly developed headlamp coming out about now, I believe.

With the fenix rechargeable lights, are you guys getting good run times on them? Average number of days/hours? Or is better to run a cr123 battery in them?

I get good run times on the cr123sized rechargeable battery at mid settings and the occasional high/turbo mode. Last a typical 2-3day outing. But I always carry a spare cr123battery just in case.

Buy lithium batteries next time and never have to worry about taking them out again until you need fresh ones. The build quality is much better across the board and they don’t leak as alkaline batteries do (because when exposed to air, bad things happen ... this the better build quality).

When you're talking run time, how long continuous use are we talking? That is without turning it off. I ask because I had to break down and pack out an elk last week in the dark. Started about 8;15 PM and finished at dawn. So we are talking 7-7 1/2 hours straight.
