I own a new HC 7000 bag and have yet to purchase a frame for it. Considering ditching it and getting the Argali simply because of the top center strap and the third compression strap on the sides. Any of you HC 7000 owners feel like it handles large loads easily or would it be worth it to switch to the Argali?

I had a HC 7k and it will handle anything and is plenty versatile. Haven't used the Argali so can't really comment on it. My suggestion would be to get a frame and use what you have, then you'll be able to determine if it works for you. Resale on the HC bags is not great so I would just stick with it until you can determine it isn't for you. The HC is not lacking because it doesn't have the top strap or extra third compression strap.

Manosteal has a thread in the DIY section on mods he made to a HC 7k, he made it pretty dang cool.

So IMO no it wouldn't be worth it.

I have a HC 7000, yes a lot of stuff will fit in there and i think the compression system for the bag is adequate for large loads. That said I added 2 extra compression straps in the middle of the pack bag ( 1 on each side same as the argali). No experience with the argali and have no plans to purchase it.

Currently running a HC 7000 I did ad a third compression strap. I have been through my share of bags, this is my favorite. I wouldn't change bags yet, run it for awhile and see what you like or don't like. Switching without using it would a waste of cash without developing a baseline.

I don't own either but that's ALOT of money to pay for an extra compression strap for each side. Just buy 2 K clips and you've got what you want. I've got the over the top strap on my WM and it literally serves no purpose if you have a lid on. I actually took mine off.

If I am carrying a heavy load with the Highcamp I generally cinch up the bottom and then use the attached compression straps to snug everything up. I do have extra straps, but rarely ever even take them.
Personally the over the top strap is not very useful for me, but keep in mind my experience with the over the top strap is with the Tahr.

Stay with the HC, Much more versatility. Bottom access zipper, more options in regards to attachment points & common loops
for hanging pockets or belt pouches.

I'm running the HC4800, & my only regret is that I did'nt buy the 7000 when I had a chance!

Thanks guys I'm definitely willing to give it a try. I do like the bottom zipper as well. Anything would be better than my old beat up Badlands pack I've been using for ages.
