Hawkins Hunter magazine feeding issues

Switched my Remington 700 ADL blind mag/ Woodstock to a Manners PH with an M5 inlet. Currently using Hawkins Hunter bottom metal and I’ve tried the Hawkins three round Hunter magazine, as well as some polymer MDT mags. I’m now getting failure to eject on nearly every magazine and at least one or two rounds per mag are getting the tip of the bullet caught underneath the feed ramp. The feed ramp is not notched.
Are there any magazines that are better than others? Or other ways to solve these problems.

Not sure why a mag would cause failure to eject.

Short action?

Did you see this note on Hawkins site?

  • Note – Users may need to contact a gunsmith to run the short action 2.980″ magazines for proper feeding. These magazines do not feature a binder plate and your action may need machine work to prevent bullets from catching below the feed ramp. This is mostly just for Remington 700s and not custom actions.

I didn’t. In theory would just using a magazine with a binder plate solve the issue?

As far as the failure to eject, it functioned pretty dang close to flawlessly when it was set up as blind mag.

When you pull the bolt back what does the casing that is trying to be ejected do? Does it fall down into the mag well area?

Pic robbed from the web…

I got the failure to eject figured out. I’ll sum it up with, I am sometimes retarded and probably shouldn’t be trusted with firearms.

Going to order and AICS metal mag with a binder plate to see if that helps with the tip of the bullet getting caught under the feed ramp.
If that doesn’t work plan on with the Grayboe M5 bdl bottom metal and just run a standard Remington 700 short action box see if that’ll work.

Aics mags that have the front binder plate will solve the issue, however you lose some coal for hand loads if that is what you're doing. I'd have the feed ramp modified myself.
