What are you folks using to carry a Hawken while horseback? I would like to carry mine while riding my mule around, and am not having very good luck looking for one to tie to my saddle. I've tried the Google and the search function, and I am not seeing anything other than sheaths for the muzzleloader.

Mine fits in my regular rifle scabbard. I use an electrical wire tie (a little one) as a cover over my cap so I can carry it loaded with the hammer down.

Are you using a scoped rifle, unscoped, or a lever action scabbard?

During regular season its a scoped rifle. During the summer its a leveraction 94. My tc renegade fits fine (scopeless) during muzzleloader season.

What doesn't fit on yours?

I honestly haven't tried it in my scabbard. I figured someone made one specifically for a hawken, but can't find one. With the longer barrel on it, I just figured it would not fit in the scabbard that I have. I see a lot of people saying carry it across the pommel, but I am not a good enough rider for that, I still need both hands. And it seems like that would be a good way to damage a rifle.

Please define "Hawken". Are you talking about a traditional gun or a TC/Lyman/??? The traditional guns are usually atleast 5 inches longer.

It’s a TC kit that was built sometime in the 70s. Cap lock if that’s important

any normal, rifle length should work for you. Unless you plan to scope the gun don't buy a scabbard made for a scoped rifle.

I have the big brother to the trailmax posted above. It is way more than needed for a hawken, but it is also very rigid. I get nervous about the thin wrist on my hawken. The bigger trailmax has some internal loops that are adjustable to make your rifle fit.

I can carry my 30" plus braked rifle wearing a sightron s8 which is a HUGE scope and still lock my hawken in. It does come with rigging as well.

If you're interested I can take some pics with my hawken in it....but it'll be a few days.
