Hey guys, looking to hear some Hawaii diy experiences from Canadians, looking at going next March or April. How hard is it to bring meat back? Trophies? Was it worth it?

It's easy with a Guide, Rodney Perriera is one [my sis in laws cousin] .......not easy at all logistically or hunting DIY.

The Axis is excellent....you couldn't pay me to eat one of the Hawaiian sheep or goats

When you say you wouldn’t eat one, do you like sheep or goats in general, like from the store? I quite enjoy both, just haven’t had a wild version of either

As for a guide, that’s out of my price range, which pretty much makes axis deer out of the question, because like you said, that looks like a logistical nightmare

It’s easy to do as long as you’re going there on a hunt. If you try to include with your family vacation, well, good luck.

I was just looking at Perriera's website. I'll be on Maui in February. Would you mind messaging me some details? Looks like axis are no good to hunt in February? I'm interested in goats and pigs but not with dogs. Are the goats pretty killable with a bow? Can I fit a hunt into a vacation week? Thanks in advance for your time.

I don't know him, never hunted with him...and have only met him many years ago at a family function. I hunted with other friends on 3 of the islands. Best to contact him yourself.

I can eat a sandwich while gutting a hog but a chunk of that hawaiian goat in my mouth gives me the dry heaves. Just the smell of it cooking makes me sick. My Hawaiian buddy on the big island loves it, but it makes it challenging for me when he wants me to stay for dinner.

Sorta on topic, I saw goats all over on the big island, just driving on the highway. I'm gonna check out the guide mentioned. I want to get an Axis some day.
