UPDATE

From Weatherby:

Upon the initial inspection, the gunsmiths found that your rifle passes all safety and function checks. The gunsmiths found that the chamber and action had a moderate amount of old lubricant and debris, as well as carbon and copper fouling in the bore. Your rifle was then cleaned and prepped for Accuracy Testing.

Your rifle passed Accuracy Testing with 160gr Nosler Partitions which shot two passing groups of 0.65 MOA and 0.92 MOA at 100 yards. Since your rifle passed the Accuracy Testing it will be subject to the $200 passing range fee. Once we collect the payment your rifle will be able to be shipped back to you. You may call us at (307) 675-7840 to provide payment information and ask any questions that you may have. When calling please reference RMA XXXX

The Accuracy Test is done by shooting the rifle off of a Caldwell Lead Sled. Each group consists of 3 shots because our Accuracy Guarantee states a .99″ or better 3-shot group at 100 yards. The gunsmith informed me that while shooting your rifle, he waited roughly 3-5 minutes between shots.

The gunsmith fired 2 three shot groups from your rifle using the .280 AI Nosler Trophy Grade 160gr Partition Factory-Loaded ammunition and the 0.65" MOA was the first group and the 0.92" MOA was the second group. That is the only ammunition we have available at this time to test your rifle with.

********

So now I need to decide what to do - the gun shoots apparently.

Anyone interested in a great discount on a barely used Backcountry 2.0 Ti in .280 AI? I'm thinking like a 10-15% discount...

Did they shoot with your scope (Vortex LHT) and rings (Talley UL)?

same - but the OP needs whacked with a reality stick.
FFS - You people are ridiculous. WHAT THE **** DO YOU THINK I SHOULD BUY? A goddamn Leupy Mk5HD scope is also PNGd?

My experience with Nightforce glass is disappointing to say the least. Also, tall, non-locking turrets are a hard no.

It's like my 25 years of competitive shooting experience, and many many professionals, doesn't mean anything in the Rokslide universe.

I think your on the right track, locking turrets are cool. The nightforce atacr 4-16x42 has ‘em, also has capped windage which is also cool.
Even with locking elevation the mark 5hd will change zero on you so that’s fun. All the cool factor of locking turrets with none of the benefits.

I think someone already answered your question.

Nightforce
SWFA
Trijicon

In that order. You're literally screaming at people offering you sage advice.

Dave
Mostly it's the attitude coming with that "sage" advice that annoyed me there.

There's so much snobbery attitude around the Rokslide Optic Belief Systems "ROBS".

You just spent $200 to have someone tell you that your optics and associated mounting options were the issue. Several of the people you're seemingly yelling at told you the same for free.

I get that the "tone" might be "direct" in nature, but it doesn't make it wrong. Get a rail and a Nightforce and i bet your issues go away. Buy a Leupold of ANY variety and i bet it feels like Groundhog Day for you.

Just my opinion, and it's worth what you paid for it.

Yep - I agree with you Dave. $200 is still less than i would have spent in time and money to come to whatever conclusion this ended up being.

I guess I should deeply and profusely apologize to the cognoscenti that I have forgotten about a singular negative review of the Mk5 scope that they posted over a month ago.

So ya, I was frustrated by the attitude by which everyone is providing "sage" advice.

So that everyone can feel like they've properly schooled me, I'm currently looking for Nightforce dealers with good pricing - that work?

I flagellate myself deeply before you Rokslide. My passions exceeded my control.

In addition to Weatherby using their optics, they noted that there was a "moderate amount of debris and fouling in the bore". That might account for lack of accuracy. If shooting mono bullets and cup and core without cleaning the barrel between the two, that could cause lack of accuracy too.

OP- did you clean the barrel of copper, etc before shooting different ammo? Also, I would ask Weatherby to send the "test targets" back with the rifle. AND Weatherby noted their gunsmith waited "roughly 3-5 minutes between shots". What was your waiting time between shots?

Ya - the most I did was run a boresnake through there. My experience with precision rifles has been to rarely clean barrels. This gun had... maybe 100 rounds through it. No single bullet was fired more than maybe 12-15 times so while I find their point interesting - it just doesn't jive with my experience.

Good call on getting them to send the test targets.

Time between my shots were pretty short in my initial testing, and at the end, before I prompted to send it back, was longer but not 5 minutes. Honestly, having a hard time recalling. Again, for me, this may be a uber skinny barrel issue.
