Have you seen current production RemArms rifles in stores?

I am very casually toying with the idea of another rifle.

The RemArms website shows at least three different models of 700 with an 8-twist barrel - the SPS, SPS Compact, and SPS Stainless. I haven't checked the others.

(At this point I should say that I don't care what anyone here thinks of Remington, RemArms, 700s, 700 triggers or safeties or bolt releases or their current or past management or engineering or anything else. I'm not asking for your opinions on those things; I've heard those opinions and might even share some of them. Or not. Who cares?)

When I search for those SKU numbers or do a more generic search for 243 700s on google, or gundeals, or gunbroker, I'll find plenty of web results of rifles for sale, but I always end up looking at what appears to be an older production rifle as it'll mention having an X-Mark trigger or a 9.12" twist rate. The only place that has a listing for sale for an 8-twist .243 700 is Feet Farm, which shows out of stock.

Do new (meaning, 2024-2025 production with the specs shown on the RemArms website today) Remington rifles even exist in the wild? If so, where?

Remingtons have dangerous triggers and safeties and their bolt handles fall off. You should get a Tikka.

Sorry...I don't actually have any useful input...other than I don't see a lot of Remingtons around any more either, old or new. Huge change from 20 - 25 years ago.

I would love to see Remington make a comeback with the attention to detail like guaranteed headspace, better fit and finish, better triggers and better barrels. Remingtons seem to fit me better than any other brand. It could have something to do with using them for the last ~35 years.

With that said, European manufacturers seem to be putting out better products these days with regards to quality.

I'm closer to 40 years, otherwise, same, word for word.

I love 700s. And I'd like to buy one just as a way of supporting the current form of the company. But my goodness, why is it so hard to make the things with a consistent headspace measurement so we can have prefits, or to properly time and weld the handle?

They didn't need the 700 Alpha. They just needed the '700 made right'. I actually prefer their extractor setup - I think it's the best system in history from a safety standpoint for a guy who grew up in the heyday of reckless handloaders - though I guess that's for another discussion.

I'd just like to find one in stock. :(

I think it’s now called RemArms and is said to make their guns in Georgia, but some/all/none of the custom shop work is/was/never handled by Pacific Tool and Gauge, which has/hasn’t changed into Pacific Grinding and Machine.

Now rather than claiming to be the Remington Custom Shop, they say they work closely with the custom shop. Knowing a few lawyers that work with businesses to limit their liability exposure, I’m sure there are a dozen shell corporations for many aspects of whatever is going on.

Many custom parts are/were made by them(s) and custom shop made to order receivers are still on the PTG website that now is labeled Pacific Grinding and Machine.

Not all calibers of basic new Remington rifles are available, but they do have a few.

It’s also my understanding the company(s) gets some international defense contracts, like sniper rifles that probably have a lifespan in Ukraine measured in days. Now that the USA has flip flopped on funding Ukraine, as if we somehow love the Russians, maybe those contracts are going more to European companies. Americans seem oblivious to Europe/Ukraine, but large military contracts still drain ammo components/rifles/optics. Not only is a lot going into Ukraine, every European country is beefing up their military preparedness since the US can’t be trusted to not flip flop. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if the entire actual Remington facility in Georgia is working on military contracts if it paid enough.

My personal feeling is Christensen makes the rifle Remingtons should have been. The machining and finishes are better, receiver steel is better, barrels are better with better chambering, while sticking to the Remington dimensions for the most part. It’s no surprise a trued PTG custom shop rifle is similar in price to a Christensen - the basic machining costs are a commodity. The number of people that poo poo Remingtons and Christensens without even owning either is funny.

Man. I get that there's a lot of Remington hate but that's just cruel.

(I'm at least partly joking there).

ETA: And I've seen the stuff PTG has on their website and have at least considered grabbing one of those 673 actions to make a Model Seven clone.

Those are oldies. Wasn’t the 673 discontinued 20 years ago? Maybe it has still be available from the custom shop all this time? Lol

lol. Yeah, they've been around a while, but as I understand it the entire action is 100% model seven.

Just like the old 78 was a 700 minus some jeweling. I have an old 78 in an ADL walnut stock. I hunt with it at least once per year.

I love the plain Jane Remington models. Like the 78, 788, etc. All functionality.

I was going to suggest this as I found a 8twist 243 on gun broker, but wasn’t sure if that was the OPs goal since he mentioned the sps models.

At least this gets you a decent stock and trigger if a Remington is what you are after
