Have you ever gone too light?

Not too light in terms of gear or food, but have run low on consumables like fuel and bug spray. Fire mitigates the fuel concern in later seasons where no bans exist, but lack of bug spray sucks during the early season!

I've had good luck with the black diamond FLZ.
I tripped walking down a chute and for sure thought they were done and just the top knob on the foam grip ripped off. going on 4 years with them. There's no more blue paint left on the lower 2ft of the poles.

It’s just my experience, both poles failed the exact same (from different sets).

My gf has been using her flz’s for 3-4 years now with no issues and really likes them. One thing I did use mine for that BD almost didn’t warranty for, was using them for tarp set up. I was told they wouldn’t stand up to such “heavy use”. But again, jme.

With all of the gram counters, I am honestly surprised no one has ever gone too light on TP. Not just on quality but also on ply and thickness.

My BSR. It took forever to boil water and used lots of fuel. I eventually bought the way heavier Jetboil flash. Loved it.

Tripod!

Test your glassing set up in the wind. That lightweight setup that’s great during the summer might suck in the fall with just a little bit of wind. A little beefier tripod might help you spot that deer on a shitty fall day.

@carsonkeys and I went to light on water once...we thought there would be water in some of the drainage we were wrong..luckily there was a water hole on top. I cramped up terrible bad luckily he is medic trained. I will never go without plenty of water again.

Ahhh, this borders on TMI, but sheds light on my level of OCD: I count the squares of TP. Makes it easy to calculate how much to take with. Usually end up with several days left over (intentionally) - one year I wasn’t so fortunate in that department (lots of paste-like BM) and ran it down to having one square left on the last day. That was unpleasant. Oh well!

Not sure exactly what you mean by bank account. But starting with less expensive optics has been more expensive for me in the long run. I could have found a way to afford the better glass, but I had a hard time justifying the cost at the time.

Yes, my pack. I have a Stone Glacier that has had to be sent back two times for repairs on the frame stays and load strap/hip belt. One time packing out a boned out mule deer one strap ripped out of my hip belt and I about fell down this scree face. Luckily I didn’t get hurt.

A buddy and I were 4 days up a big stone with three or four more days to go and only had about 4 liters of water left for each of us. Just plain poor planning. It's lots faster to go down than to go up.
