Has anyone used this knife to de-bone deer/elk? are the 60A blades much better at not breaking than the 60XT blades or is the barracuda blaze a better but more pricy option?

Thanks

I've done a lot of leg joints with the XT blades as well but I'm never in a hurry with my quartering. Sometimes it takes a bit to find the right tendons to cut but it gets it done.

Interested to possibly try the torch though, overkill is underrated!

Thanks Aron! I got pretty frustrated with the 60xt
breaking. Is there any available locally (sportsmans/basspro) or should I order off the website?

I just bought a piranta for grins because the price seemed good. I'm impressed with it. I'll have my spyderco delica for general butchering and the havalon for skinning.

Alright that's what I thought thanks again Aron.

Sea, the website says the 60A blades only fit the torch and the bolt.

ive been using a havalon edge and love it but when we were butchering my bear i let the wife use it and im thinking im not getting it back haha. so im going to pick up another, i have no complaints with the edge, i can do everything with it and only break blades when i want to or know im probably going to. should i just stick with it or get the torch or bolt?
also going to get my FIL one for fathers day, hes got big paws and is set in his ways on his old buck folder, so it will have to be comfortable to change his mind, torch?

I just picked up a Havalon Baracuda. It is larger but only weighs 3 oz. It takes 4 3/8" skinning or 5" fillet blades. After I ordered I noticed that the replacement blades are a lot more expensive.

Also I'll say order replacement blades from havalon! My hunting partner bought 500 "60xt" blades from a shop in Texas last year and they are going dull about twice as fast as the ones we got when we bought the knives new. Not sure whats up with them but they are definitely not the same quality as the originals.

I've used #22, 60XT, and 60A blades in both an Edge and Bolt. Some went on slightly harder than others, but all fit and allows the knives to fully close. Search "Havalon." I went into further detail in a previous post.

i get the impression the bolt is just the poly handle version of the torch, at least my understanding, I brought a bolt to bear camp this spring and another guy did also, we did 8 bears, never snapped a blade, cutting paws off, skinning out the paws, etc. I tested mine quickly before the hunt on a badger that a buddy bowkilled and was in my freezer so I cased it and sent it in for tanning, cut head off for an uncle who wanted the skull etc. and no issues...what a great little knife, one guy in bear camp who has skinned and cut meat at cattle plants for years and years and guided/hunted whole life etc. was very skeptical of the bolt as he was very used to knives and particular as you can imagine, his bolt is on the way as when handed one for splitting lips and doing paws etc. he was sold right away, not sure he will still skin with it but doing heads etc. he will and he always does whatever he can to get game into his garage for boning to use the 6" traditional boning knives to which is amazing to watch him work in that atmosphere, me and the other guy who brought the bolts were first time users and both came away very happy and can't wait to get them on some ungulates in fall, I did the badger with one blade, I think smaller bears around 2 blades and bigger bears up to 3 if that's any help

the bolt with the 60a blades = awesome, mine weighs 1.5 oz naked, then case is 1/2 oz and another 4 blades in case is half oz, I picked up a leatherman style at 1.6 oz to throw in case with it for blade changing and all total we're talking 4 oz with the works....that's pretty good, if you consider each blade a fresh knife then we are under 1 oz per knife that way and it drops with every blade you add....not that weight is an issue bear hunting where we did but for the sheep/mountain nuts its data we like
