Haul Road Wolves

Update- didn't get a wolf but we did see a black one run across the road near Wiseman. Honestly that's more than I expected so it was cool just to get a glimpse!

How was the caribou hunting? Did you see very many caribou?

We saw a couple hundred the first morning off the road, but I only had a rifle. After talking to people it sounds like it was the tail end of a huge herd that passed through the couple days before we got there. Rest of the trip we only saw one bull caribou past the 5 mile line but we couldn't get to him. We rafted a couple different rivers and hiked past the line in another spot, and drove to deadhorse for gas. After that first morning we saw 11 caribou and 19 muskox both from the road and past the rifle line. Really hard hunting, but beautiful country. I think I need to pick up archery before my next trip up.
