Got a quote for $4400 for one TPLO.
Suture stabilization is a little more than half that.

70# active 3-yr old dog.
Pretty sure that suture stabilization is not going to work well enough.
Colorado State has a very informative web page.

Just put mine through surgery last week for a Tibial Crest Fracture. $1100 down the drain and 2 months of no training. Little fella is about to go nuts and so am I. Could have been worse and been the ACL though.

The porcupine was fun, his dad got stitches from barbed wire twice in the same trip. The most expensive was a small scratch in an eye that wouldn’t heal and ended up costing around $1500 and five trips to the vet and veterinary eye specialist! All in all, totally worth every expense and worry for such awesome hunting partners!!

That pup is absolutely unrepentant! lol. No lessons were learned on this day.

4 year old chocolate lab.. I’ve had three outdoor related emergency vet visits with him

1) he didn’t clear a barb wire fence chasing pheasants in Iowa which ended with 18 stitches along his chest and belly
2) 3 inch stick lodged up his nose on our return trip to make up for the barbed wire fence accident
3) glass bottle shattered under his foot while shed hunting back home in Ohio which resulted in 6 stitches up his leg

All 3 accidents happened within a 4 month span

As I mentioned before our beagle that was hit by an Amazon driver and had a broken femur cost us $8,000. Then last fall he got accidentally locked in the basement and found a plastic gallon jug of rum egg nog that was left out of the freezer to thaw. He chewed through the jug and slurped up most of it. Overnight stay at the animal hospital was $1,200.

Oh man....

Multiple vet visits for porcupines.

Basically every dog we owned while we still had horses got knocked out cold at least once by getting kicked.

My old chocolate late (85-90 lb) got heatstroke hunting birds and I packed him on my shoulders out to the truck and raced down to the river. He lived but couldn't deal with temps much over 70 degrees with activity the rest of his life

I ran over my current older dog with a jet boat at age 1. At the time no obvious injury but years later an X-Ray showed a previous fracture and her spine was slowly fusing around the injury. She's 10 now and still gets after it.

Same dog, I did way too much mountain biking with her and she tore some rotator cuff muscles. Had to hobble her and rehab for a couple months to build her up

Current young dog ate weed (GF degenerate brother) at 12 weeks and we had to take her to the vet to be observed for the day.

Young dog cut her flank wide open Christmas Eve. No idea how she did it, but it was her and my brothers make dog playing in the backyard.
