Hey fella's

Looking for some input on a hard sided gun case. I bought the cabelas brand armor case yesterday and it looks pretty good but after getting it home it wont fit my 28" Benelli SBE. I would also ideally like to put 2 shotguns in it and it doesn't look like that's going to work.

Its looking to me like a pelican 1750 might be the solution but $200 is a lot of coin. Does the foam on a 1750 have to be cut or can you just lay guns on top? Anyone know where to get a 1750 a little cheaper? Thanks in advance for the input.

I have a Plano Gun Case item # 108191 and it could probably fit 3 shotguns with a little planning. seems pretty darn sturdy and it's only 100$. I flew with it this spring and it was good.

Ill give you two options...

Chasing all huntable species of ducks in North America has had me flying a shotgun all over the place. I have a 1750 which is very nice and will fit 2 shotguns (2 original sbe for me).

However, my preferred method of getting guns to a hunt via an airline is a harsided golf club case. You can easily put 2 guns in their soft sided blind cases and then stuff clothes and ammo around them. With the added benefit of it not appearing to baggage handlers that there are guns inside. We had intentional damage done to gun cases in Atlanta one time that had 3 members of my party having to buy new cases when we got at our destination just so they could fly their guns home after the trip.

Just two months ago, I bought a 1750 for my first airline trip with a rifle. I had no problems and would recommended one to anyone traveling via airline.

I don't think you have to cut out the foam but it's easy and I believe that's the intent.

The least expensive I found a couple of months back was at Midway USA.

Good luck.

I've got the Plano all weather bone collector case. I think I got it on sale for $100 at gander mountain or something. I've taken it on 4 plane trips and it's been great. I've had two shotguns, 1 shotgun and one scoped rifle, and even managed to squeeze two scoped rifles in it(barely). I was a bit worried about the two scoped rifles but nothing got damaged or scratched.

If you're flying with it, get a SKB ATA rated case and suck it up. i have their biggest model, have gotten 5 rifles and two sidearms in it or 3 rifles and a bow. Bulletproof case.

In reference to my post above I tried to find some pics of the guys cases that were destroyed by a Delta Airlines baggage handler...Only found this pic. I was using a pelican 1750 and they managed to break one of the latches off, but no other damage.

I don't own a hunting rifle, so my rifle cases (Pelican) are for AR's. But you can find SKB or Pelican cases in those sizes for about $200. My bow cases are SKB and on Amazon, a lot of SKB cases are sold as Bow/rifle cases. If you're flying with a shot gun, you could get by with a shorter case by taking the bbls off for flight. I think I got my last SKB case, an iSeries on Amazon for less than $200.

SKB cases for me! Think about the price of two SBE2's and the price of a good quality case becomes small. That $300 for a case will hurt a lot less than seeing the barrel of your shot gun sticking out of the end of a cheap case that some Jack Wagon baggage handler destroyed. I learned this the hard way.

Spend the money for a good hard side case. It is an investment that you only need to do once. Dang thing will last forever.

As for cutting the foam;
I recommend that you do cut it if transporting a scoped rifle. Putting the rifle in the case without a relief cutout, for the rifle and scope, places undue stress on the bases and rings and is often a significant contribution to your sights being "off".
